Defunding the police: Oakland, Berkeley could be test cases for Bay Area, nation

So they abolished the anti crime unit because a social worker can better deal with gang drive by shootings etc. Got it! :palm:

Another one, where was the "anti crime unit" eliminated? Did you read any of the articles included in the thread? Can't recall any of them mentioning an "anti crime unit." Do you have access to something no knows or are you just making it up as you go along

Once again. That is all your own talking (except the city is falling apart, that is factual). You should seek some help archive.

Ah, no, it is what you, and your media, is implying, Armageddon has arrived, largely to sell the Trump narrative, and no, the city is not falling apart, last I knew Wall Street went on today just as it does everyday, the Island ferry operated as usual, subways ran as expected, etc., etc., etc.

Not my media archives. You seem to be the only one referencing it. Try going out for a walk tonight. No need to bring your phone.

Wait a minute, didn't I author the prefatory statement that no one is denying these events are happening, and I have no clue on ITT. It is happening, but not the way the right is portraying it, as suddenly, police aren't getting paid, that their salary is going to be cut, layoffs will be enormous, cities are being torn apart, the four horsemen are due at any time now, etc., etc., etc

Again as I said, and you even repeated, local levels are looking at ways to redefine the role of police in their community, many feel that some situations don't need a guy with a gun showing up to resolve them

The first response to the OP was Bourban and Rana saying defunding the police is a lie. The article in the OP is coming from the San Francisco Chronicle, not Breibart. Defunding the police has been discussed nationally for a couple of months now. What are people kneeling for and protesting in the street for if not to change the police department and how it operates? But now it's all a lie?

And it was the activists themselves who decided to label it defunding the police instead of reforming the police or anything else. I wasn't a marketing major but that's not good marketing to me and is less likely to draw support.

What does this statement from the article mean BoBo?

Oakland diverted $14.3 million from the Police Department in its June budget and activists have continued calling for more aggressive measures, including a transition team of city administrators and community members who would help disband large sections of the department.

So if the police department had $14.3 million diverted from it, isn't that defunding? It is less they have to spend correct? Come on BoBo

the police budget is 300 million you inbred moron

Well, Oakland is already largely a lawless cesspool of violence...

I don't think defunding the cops there will make much difference.
