Okay, the guy who wants to take the Republican party in a "different direction" is trying to secure his position as the chairman of the RNC by circulating a CD with a song called "Barack the Magic Negro."

This song came from the Rush Limbaugh show, no surprise.

Absolutely disgusting.

The worst part: This guy expects this to help him get in charge of the RNC and it probably will.

LOL... I never heard of this guy, I thought you were talking about Newt for a moment. I don't know what Rush has to do with this either. Besides, is "Negro" now a "racist" slur? Jeesh, at this rate, pretty soon we won't even be able to say "black person" without being called "racist" for it.

Now I happen to agree the guy shouldn't have sent out the parody. But I will bet any amount of money ib1 doesn't know the origin of the original Barack the Magic Negro story.

Some columnist from the LA Times said "Barack the Magic Negro." He didn't write the song.

I'm impressed you know a liberal columnist at the liberal times wrote the article. White comedians might as well turn in their comedic badges for the next four or eight years. Can't make any jokes about Obama. David Allen Grier and others will be having a field day.

He didn't invent "Magic Negro." That was an archetype from literature he used as a rhetorical device which has been around for many, many, many years. The guy who wrote the SONG was conservative satirist Paul Shanklin.

I'm familiar with who did the song. He's writes parodies for Limbaugh.

Guess that mean's he's irrelevant. Oh wait, he's trying to take control of your party.

Oh wait... There is no CONSERVATIVE Party!

Guess who broadcast it.

So fucking what? It's called SATIRE! It's what ENTERTAINERS often do to ENTERTAIN! MORON!

Why don't you go and ask a black guy?

Should I ask my black friend who contributes to the United NEGRO College Fund, or the one who sings NEGRO Spirituals?

Maybe YOU should reflect on what an uptight hypersensitive ASS you are being? And maybe you should avoid hypocrisy by dropping your "racial slur" of a moniker.... I BE ONE!

Guess blackface would be satire in your world too, eh? Totally innocent. Most if not all organizations have changed their names so they don't include Negro, even if the acronyms haven't been altered. Not to mention, who the hell says "negro spirituals" anymore? Must be an Alabama thing.

Racist.

Well Negro is still widely used and accepted as a word. I looked on dictionary.com and didn't find any definition which classified the word as "racist" but I did find this...

"Professor Booker T. Washington, being politely interrogated ... as to whether negroes ought to be called 'negroes' or 'members of the colored race' has replied that it has long been his own practice to write and speak of members of his race as negroes, and when using the term 'negro' as a race designation to employ the capital 'N' " ["Harper's Weekly," June 2, 1906]

I found several common uses of the word:

Negro bug -- a minute black bug common on the raspberry and blackberry. It produced a very disagreeable flavor.

negro corn -- the Indian millet or durra; so called in the West Indies.

Negro fly -- a black dipterous fly which, in the larval state, is injurious to carrots; -- called also carrot fly.

Negro head -- Cavendish tobacco.

Negro monkey -- the moor monkey.

Rio Negro -- 1. a river in NW South America, flowing SE from E Colombia through N Brazil into the Amazon. 1400 mi. (2255 km) long.
2. a river in S Argentina, flowing E from the Andes to the Atlantic. 700 mi. (1125 km) long.
3. a river in SE South America, flowing S from Brazil and W through Uruguay, to the Uruguay River. ab. 500 mi. (800 km) long.

But the most popular definition of the word is:
Negro --being a member of the black peoples of humankind, esp. those who originate in sub-Saharan Africa.

Oh yes... and this...

“Swing low, sweet chariot” is a popular one you may have heard.

Paul Shanklin want's to take over the Republican Party? WOW! Just WOW!

Umm, I have a little green square on the right side of my name that says I am "an unknown quantity". But worse, Cawacko has one that says he is "on a distinguished road".

What freaking bizzarro world is this?
