John Wayne Exhibition Removed

The only movie I enjoyed of his was The Cowboys. I tolerated him in the ones with Maureen O’Hara, because I loved her.

Only movie I can actually recall was that Vietnam one........

It seemed odd as I recall as he was the poster boy cowboy in that role.

Was like he was the same guy, same lines, just wearing a GI getUp instead of his west hollywood getUp..

Yale is still named for the slave trader who created it.

How many RWNJs are going to shit their pants when they hear the Kalifornians are going to rename John Wayne airport?

https://www.cnn.com/2020/06/28/us/john-wayne-airport-name-change-orange-county-democrats/index.html
Democrats in Orange County, California, are done with The Duke, and they want John Wayne's name and likeness stripped from the county's airport.

The pols cite Wayne's professed support of white supremacy in a 1971 Playboy interview, in which he espoused derogatory views of African Americans, Native Americans and movies with gay characters.

he was also the same in everyone of them from what I recall.:dunno: I could be wrong, that is all I really recall..

Sometimes even the same music. I like John Wayne movies, but his acting range looks like a Festivus tree.

His peers seemed to agree..

I must of watched many growing up, but can't recall any of them..

He was pretty one denominational IMHO, same mannerism, same/similar type lines blah blah blah...... Part of that could be the role casting :dunno:

Nobody can remember hardly any Wayne films because he nearly always performed in B-list movie mediocrity and he was a completely one dimensional actor.

Now I could still watch Bogart, Ingrid Bergman, Charlton Heston, and Jimmy Stewart because they actually turned in memorable performances in iconic movies.

Could of been, I can't recall..... My fav cowboy movies were the spaghetti westerns..... Eastwood

Those were good too. There are several good John Wayne westerns. My favorites are Rio Bravo and The Searchers. The Shootist was at the end of his career and a bit of a summation even to the point of flashbacks showing his older westerns. The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance was a departure from the usual John Wayne BS. Great movie.

That said, I think he was a pompous asshole. One of my all time favorite westerns is "The Wild Bunch", a western that sent John Wayne screaming that it "destroyed the myth of the West". Good. John Wayne fucked up the story of the Alamo with his bullshit version of it.

Sounds like you recall watching many of those.. I recall Liberty Valance, he was in it?? I think it was J Stewart the one I saw?? I recall thinking it was good..

My favorite comedy was a western- blazing saddles....

Wayne was a draft dodger in WW2. He claimed his shoulder injury kept him from serving. At that time, he was a stunt man.

He did not dodge the draft. The draft board issued him a 3-A status, then later issued him a 2-A status. He was thus legally exempt from the draft.

So his Oscar winnings mean nothing, eh?

You still haven’t cleaned up that grammar yet, have you, illiterate fucktard?

Why does my skin color make a difference. I’m merely stating the obvious about you RW pussies. You go out if your way to whine about blacks. You white, wimpy fucks continually paint yourselves as victims. What a pitiable group of wissbags. :rofl2:

Illiterate moron.

Actually it is you who continue to be a victim! But Massa promises you food stamps, and free phones, so you gotsa stay loyal to massa! My black friends laugh at you, for being such a loyal lapdog, to the very ones who oppress you!

John Wayne only won one Oscar for True Grit...and it was more of a lifetime award. I liked his movies just like I like Tom Cruise movies, but I think both people (as are most Hollywood flakes) are assholes.

Bullshit. He started out in serials but went on to star in a lot of major movies. As posted earlier, Wayne was a one-note actor, but that niche was a lot of fun to watch.

Fuck you Crypiss, there were many excellent films. The Searchers, True Grit, the Shootist, Stagecoach, the Sons of Katie Elder, Eldorado, Liberty Vallance and Big Jake to name a few. Yeh he made plenty of duds most notably the Conqueror with him playing Genghis Khan. It was a truly awful film and also did for him as he most likely contracted cancer from filming in the Utah desert near the nuclear testing site in Nevada. Over ninety people who worked on that film contracted cancer including Susan Hayward!

I understand you like Wayne movies and to each their own. But I do not know anybody under the age of 70 who watches Wayne movies, and I cannot even recall the last time I have heard anyone talk about John Wayne.

He might have been the Mel Gibson of the 1940 and 50s, but time has not been kind to his legacy. The vast majority of his movies are utterly forgettable, and his acting skills were mediocre at best.

People might have thought of him as an icon in the 1970s, but I think the shine had worn off that perception at this point.

I actually still know Gen Xers who will sit and watch a Humphrey Bogart or Charlton Heston movie

Dude, first, I'm under 70. Secondly, I watched John Wayne movies and have occasionally watched them again, but I don't sit around all day watching John Wayne movies. There's plenty of new ones to watch. I've got an entire library of movies stocked up to watch but don't have the time.

Additionally, there are so many great, high quality streaming series to watch that I don't have time to watch the same one over and over again.

There are some movies I do watch once a year or so and none of them are John Wayne movies:
Return of the Jedi
Saving Private Ryan
The Last Samurai
Glory
The Alamo (the Billy Bob Thornton one, not the POS John Wayne one)

There are other movies which I've watch a few times such as the Godfather movies. Rainy day movies where I have them on in the background but don't have to pay attention since I've seen it.

Gen Xers watching Charlton "From my cold dead hands" Heston movies? Awesome!

I said nobody I know under 70 watches or talks about Wayne. I do not know you and I do not know 99 9999 percent of the people in this country.

Maybe I am wrong, and there are still huge amounts of people still making it a point to watch Wayne movies.

I think part of it also is that people simply do not watch westerns anymore. And that seems like it was Wayne's bread and butter. Westerns is pretty much a dead film genre.

I like Star Wars and Tom Hank's too. Forrest Gump and Private Ryan are two of my favorite movies. I have probably seen Gump 20 times
