Thinking positive for a change

I think it may be 2010 but the market usually predicts it with a huge rise 6months early.
Several guys at the tennis club have sold all and are in CD's, they will miss the run up.

most people do miss on both ends. i missed getting out before the downturn on this one by about 6 months. I actually had like 60% of my money in cash end of 2007 but then put it back in in early 2008 seeing that mini run.

Oh well this is money i wont use till i retire anyhow. I don't invest much short term on the stock market. I just assume pay down debt to minimize my need for income.

i got cold called from Boston Scientific hr last week and i told them i wasn't looking for a job. The actual manager of the position called me back yesterday trying to convince me said they would bump the level up and add 20k to the salary. I did ask them whats going on and he said cant say much but they are beefing up big time for 2009. Wonder whats up with that company being that aggressive in hiring top talent during this major down turn. hmmm BSX

don't know much about them.
I wouldn't leave a strong co for a higher salary unless it was way more than that.

I wasn't looking. They pulled my resume from like 2 years ago. I like my job now tho i know im not getting a raise or much of a bonus this year. I did listen this time because of threat of layoffs here is big for 09 and although they wouldnt want to lay off good performers I am overhead from the core business needs. I may check it out and go talk with the team. Salary would only be about 15k more a year then i make now so not really worth it at this point.

15K more to invest each year and it isn't worth it?

Just move to the Andes put on an orange robe and live off of donations and meditation.

not when u factor in leaving a job u like. hows that 15k a year when you hate going to work every day?

Depending on how you invest it you could leave and retire much more quickly, be time rich as well as fiscally.

I do note your point your making but chasing a small % is not always as good as thinking about your working hours and stress levels. I have a 4.5yo son right now and I like to spend time with him and not get home at 7pm totally spent and miserable from my job.

While a secure retirement is the end goal the journey to that goal is whats more important.

standard of living for the non specialized skills

What's a specialized skill? Dictator?

Scientists, engineers, programmers, white collar people are all being outsourced. Why do you think your grandchildren will be spared? Are you building them a bank and getting them illuminati contacts?

The only real way to beat this thing is to be sixty right now.

But what do you care right? You got yours.

There was nothing in previous posts that said you would have to work too many hours, just that you didn't like the job and wanted to give up 15K per year to hold the one you liked.

IMO, jobs are just time spent away from the family. If I get more for doing them I'll go there. If it means I have to get all stressed and work too many hours, screw them.

that's exactly what I did after getting my MBA, instead of looking for a higher corp job I stayed with the cushy hours and did the little league and hs wrestling thing. I wouldn't change a thing.
I was on a high profile systems implimentation team going to Houston weekly with the family home and it was brutal.
