Let’s see a raise of hands—who knew there was a black national anthem? Me neither. But they’re going to play it on opening day in every NFL game. That is, if they don’t find a reason to call it off. Will probably depend on what Trump’s poll numbers are doing in August.

On the one hand I don’t know why I should care about it way or the other since they don’t show the National Anthem on TV anyway. And it’s just a song [hardly anyone will know the words to] so it’s like whatever.

But then I think of the messaging. Black National anthem. Doesn’t that imply black nationalism? There is no white national anthem—it’s just the National Anthem. Everyone sings it because we are One Nation Under God. THAT IS WHY WE SING IT.

Isn’t that kind of like...oh, what word am I looking for...divisive, that’s it. It’s divisive on its face.

I don’t want to hear another word about how Trump is dividing the country.

If they play the 'Black National Anthem', it would only be fair to play the 'White National Anthem'. (and I guess the Brown, Red, and Yellow as well)

The National Anthem was written by a white man but it was written for all races and should be the only anthem played.

If they want to replace it needs to be done democratically via a national referendum.

They know that won’t work. So they resort to undemocratic means. Threaten businesses and corporations until they bend the proverbial knee. Or just create a lot of havoc.

But that’s kind of where we’re at.

I’ve always wondered why it was necessary to play the anthem before any events, except maybe political events.
