Confederacy: check. Now on to colonialism

Hello Woko Haram,

The question is: what are we changing said thinking to? Most of the changes seem to be negative.

While we are at it, it would not hurt to change our national anthem.

I know, I know, we are so used to it, and it is so meaningful. But that can change in time.

But it talks about violence. That isn't what our nation should be about.

Hello Reverend_Hellh0und,

Ya wanna talk about our modern day colonialism?

Federal regulations prevent shipping trade with Puerto Rico by requiring only American flagged ships can trade there.

"According to John Frittelli’s 2014 analysis for the Congressional Research Service, it costs about twice as much to operate a ship complying with the Jones Act as a typical ship used for international cargo. Drewry Maritime Research concluded in 2013 that US-built, Jones-compliant vessels cost about four times as much to build as comparable foreign ships.

More expensive ships that are more expensive to operate add up to a situation in which Jones-compliant shipping is much more expensive than non-Jones shipping.

“The cost of shipping a standard-size container from New York to Puerto Rico has been much higher than shipping it to Jamaica,” writes North Carolina State University economics professor Thomas Grennes. “Similarly, the cost of shipping from Los Angeles to Hawaii has been higher than the cost of shipping the same product from Los Angeles to Shanghai.”"

Jones Act

"An absence of domestic port-to-port shipping is an occasional distortion for the US mainland, but it’s a systemic economic impediment for places like Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico, in particular, is so close to the United States that the most cost-effective way to transport many goods there would be for ships to stop off en route to a mainland port. But under the Jones Act, foreign-originating goods must be dropped off in Jacksonville and then shipped to Puerto Rico via an exorbitantly expensive Jones-compliant vessel. Likewise, it costs far more to ship US-produced goods to Puerto Rico than it does to Jamaica.

This raises the cost of living on Puerto Rico, makes Puerto Rico an unattractive place to produce goods bound for the US mainland, and has the bizarre effect of putting Puerto Rico at a competitive disadvantage to other Caribbean islands as a destination for American tourists. "

"Unlike Houston, Puerto Rico isn’t a thriving place that happens to have been hit by a serious natural disaster. It’s a poor place by American standards whose economy has been in shambles for about a decade and whose bankrupt government is now hamstrung by its creditors. It badly needs an overall improvement in economic conditions — some kind of prospect for long-term growth — and permanently lifting the Jones Act is one of the more powerful levers at federal disposal for doing that. Reducing the cost of living on the island will make it a more attractive destination for tourism and retirees, while giving the island at least some shot of developing export industries and raising living standards for residents. "

This is unlikely to happen because, once again, Puerto Rico has no voting representation in the US Congress which might make these changes.

You are advocating changing the National Anthem now?

Fucking communist....

How is that communist?

There has been a measure to change it to "America the Beautiful" in Congress for years now. A lot of people consider "Star Spangled Banner" to be more of a war song, and outdated. And the melody is from an old drinking song, I believe.

That bitch is a communist through and through. Read her posts...

At this point, we might as well. Half of the country doesn't stand for American ideals anymore anyway.

Once the left is done with tearing down statues, the anthem will be next along with pretty much anything else that can be remotely described as patriotic.

The globalists are fine with this, but they'll realize their mistake too late when the left comes for them.

How's that ' anti-colonialism ' coming along ?

A deal could have been struck to relocate the statues to museums or such, but rebels refused. Rebels need to get it through their heads: The South lost. They need to stop trying to glorify breaking up the USA. They need to start embracing racial equality. We had a Civil War because of arrogance among the powerful leaders of the pre-war South who did not want to admit that their economic model was a loser. As the South lost power with a muted slave economy that did not generate jobs, wages, and a robust consumer economy, they foolishly blamed the North for their own problems and tried to break up the USA over it. After that didn't work, they still refused to admit what they had done was a failure, and immediately began chanting that the South would rise again. They took out their problems on blacks, blamed them, and began a campaign of hatred which poisons our society to this day. News flash to rebels and haters: Blacks did not cause your problems. You have to admit that your ancestors messed up. They were greedy. They were cruel to slaves. They created an economy that could not compete with the North. The North grew much stronger than the South. Slavery was destined to end. They did not want to admit that what they had done was a failure. They never did. They passed that insolence down from generation to generation. It is time to admit the truth and make amends.

I'm not talking about Confederate statues. We've already seen a Teddy Roosevelt statue taken down and several Founding Fathers statues defaced. The attacks on statues might have started with Confederate figures, but clearly, it doesn't stop there.

Anyone who owned slaves or has some connection to imperialism is up next. It doesn't matter what the figure achieved in life outside of these things.

I think taking down any of these statues is stupid, but as usual, it's being exaggerated by the media. The reason that statue of Teddy Roosevelt is being taken down is because it portrays Imperialism in a positive way, not because Roosevelt himself is now seen as unworthy of being honored.
