You dont need Bush style cronyism in the Senate....

And apparently she isnt a "hard worker" some of her friends have been saying.....great, who does that remind you of?

CK

How is the Governor of NY appointing Caroline Kennedy promoting Bush style cronyism?

I read her book on "the right to privacy" and thought it was excellently written. Very well done, based on that book, id support her for political office.

A lazy person who doesnt do much.... and gets places because of her family name....

I, too, have read her book and was impressed. Haven't you looked at her list of achievements? She has succeeded on her own merits; she simply has had the advantage of the means to do what she wants, but she certainly is accomplished.

It doesn't matter. It's dynastic politics, and I'm sick of it. CanadianShitbag called it cronyism, but he's wrong as usual. It's dynastic shit.

And we can do better. I'm tired of the connected political lucky sperm club wielding all the power.

Ok, I looked... WHAT exactly are her accomplishments?

She has a law degree, but from what I have seen has never practiced.

She co-wrote two books with Alderman and compiled another book of her mothers favorite poetry.

She appears to have worked for the NY city dept of Education from 2002-2004, but I can't find details on what exactly she did there other than fundraising. So any help on this one in particular would be helpful.

Superfreak and I agree!

And Bush has an MBA from Harvard.....

What are you saying?

CK

You can get an MBA on connections much easier than a law degree, and there is no bar exam for an MBA.

Check out the policy on ananomous grading in American Bar Association acreteded law schools.

I'm fine just as long as they're a Democrat.

The Senate is an aristrocracy, basically. There are few in the Senate whose name or fortune did not get them to where they are today. No excuses for it, but that's the way it is.

She'll get more attention than most because her last name is "Kennedy," which evokes a certain visceral reaction in some.

Professional life
Kennedy is an attorney, editor, writer and member of the New York and Washington, D.C. bars. She is one of the founders of the Profiles in Courage Award, given annually since 1990 to a person who exemplifies the type of courage examined in her father's Pulitzer Prize-winning book of the same name. The award is generally given to elected officials who, acting in accord with their conscience, risk their careers by pursuing a larger vision of the national, state or local interest in opposition to popular opinion or powerful pressures from their constituents. In May 2002, she presented an unprecedented Profiles in Courage Award to representatives of the NYPD, the New York City Fire Department, and the military as representatives of all of the people who acted to save the lives of others during the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001.[4]

From 2002 to 2004, Kennedy worked as chief executive for the Office of Strategic Partnerships for the New York City Department of Education. During this time, she helped raise more than $65 million for the city’s public schools. [5] She currently serves as the Vice Chair of The Fund for Public Schools, a public-private partnership founded in 2002 to attract private funding for public schools in New York City. [6]

In addition, Kennedy is currently President of the Kennedy Library Foundation,[3] a director of both the Commission on Presidential Debates and the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, and Honorary Chairman of the American Ballet Theatre. She is also an adviser to the Harvard Institute of Politics, a living memorial to her father.

Kennedy has represented her family at the funeral services of former Presidents Ronald Reagan in 2004 and Gerald Ford in 2007, and at the funeral service of former First Lady Lady Bird Johnson in 2007. She also represented her family at the dedication of the William J. Clinton Presidential Center and Park in Little Rock, Arkansas in November 2004.

She can't avoid the fact that she was born into the Kennedy family, nor should she, and has met what appear to be her obligations in that stead. I don't understand why anyone would want to treat her differently from any other candidate simply because she has had advantages far beyond what most (or all) of us have had. She shouldn't be punished for that. What occurs in someone's life is far, far less important than what the person does with that. She has done well.

.

Thanks, but I can read wiki... which basically doesn't tell us much of anything that she 'accomplished'. Getting a degree is hardly anything to set her above others. Nor is passing her bar. She co-wrote two books and edited a couple of books of compiled poetry. Other than that, she appears to be good at fundraising.

With the exception of the two books she co-wrote (how much was done by Alderman vs Kennedy I don't know) all she did was raise money and hand out awards from what I can see above. Listing 'Attending funerals' or 'library openings' seems like a feeble attempt to stretch her 'professional' experience.
