There is herd immunity to polio because almost everyone has gotten the vaccine. One person with the disease might pass it on to another, but the odds of it going to a third are very low. It is not going to spread to thousands.
We are seeing Covid-19 continue to spread to thousands. There are not minor controlled outbreaks.
There are a few people here willing to openly make racist statements, but even they are ashamed of the racist tag. I always wonder about that. They are willing to call on judging people based on their race, but not willing to be labeled with the name for that.

There is definite herd immunity to strains of the common cold, much like there is to strains of influenza. That is the reason the diseases need new strains every year to spread. Old strains burn themselves out.
If the same had happened to Covid-19, we would expect to see almost no spread of it. If it had burned itself out, it would be out.
It is growing in the southeast, so I say not less than 200k dead by election day, and maybe quite a bit more.
