If you marry your housekeeper, you decrease the GDP. You were paying her $20k a year, which was $20k extra on GDP. In return, she was cleaning the house. If you marry her, she is still getting the money, but because it is considered to be staying in the household, it is not added to the GDP. She is still doing the cleaning, but that cleaning service is considered free now.

The second part where you claim that government services like building roads are free and therefore not adding to wealth is even more incorrect. Because money is changing hands, it adds to both the GDP and the wealth of the economy. It is a service that helps other goods and services come to market, so it creates a lot of wealth.

Honestly, Ocasio-Cortez could explain all this even better than I could. She is a well educated, intelligent person.
