Yes, let us not forget that Hillary did win the popular vote just as the polls predicted. DT barely squeaked by. Nobody was more surprised at his win than he was.
Polling is not intended to predict a result. Polling is intended to reflect what the result WOULD BE if the election were held on the day the poll was taken. So while it is true that people can make up their minds late, it does not invalidate the polls, nor does it render them meaningless. If they were, campaigns wouldn't bother doing them. In fact, final 2016 national polls were largely accurate. There was probably a small late swing toward Trump in the last day or two, but the final polls showed Clinton winning the popular vote by 3.3%, the actual margin was 2.1%
