Yes we are and I already know that about 5% of those overall will die if infected, and up to 11% in our age group. Ok got it what does constantly harping on the numbers instead of worrying about the percentages rising do? Not one damn thing in fact it detracts from the good news that new infections are going down in many states! Is it too difficult for the left to get the idea that after the lethality has been figured out we should concentrate on the spread and ways to reduce new infections? If you look at your doom and gloom maps the majority of the deaths are in the densely packed NE.
So I will ask one more time what good does body counts due in determining when and where to ease stay at home restrictions? All you lefties avoid that question like the plague!
I'm pretty sure that almost everyone, left and right, is aware of the rising case numbers across the board. Some of us are also aware that certain officials have a vested interest in fudging the numbers to make their area(s) look safe.
I'm not sure why you are fixated on "body counts" in regards to reopening. As far as I can tell it's the case numbers overall that have more to do with safely reopening. However, many on the right are trying to minimize both total death toll *and* case numbers, because partisan reasons. 1) If they're still rising it is not safe to cancel current stay-at-home orders -- righties want to reopen everything NOW, and 2) the numbers make #COVID45 look terribly, terribly incompetent which is damaging his chances at re-selection.

When Trump declared a National Health emergency on January 31st, reported deaths were ZERO. What were Democrats doing? They were still trying to impeach Trump and telling their constituents it was okay to go outside.

Chris Wallace took nattering Nancy Pelosi to task for criticizing President Trump’s response to COVID-19 while she urged people to visit Chinatown in San Franshitsco.
“That’s what we’re trying to do today is to say, everything is fine here. Come, because precautions have been taken,” Pelosi said on February 24. “We think it’s very safe to be in Chinatown and hope that others will come.”
The next day, San Franshitsco declared a state of emergency over COVID-19.
Pelosi prattled pathetically. “What we’re trying to do is to end the discrimination, the stigma, that was going out against the Asian-American community. In fact, if you will look, the record will show that our Chinatown has been a model of containing and preventing the virus.”
President Trump never said anything at all, much less negative, about Asian-Americans. The president in no way encouraged discrimination against Chinese-Americans. This is patently untrue.
President Trump tweeted, “It is very important that we totally protect our Asian-American community in the United States, and all around the world. They are amazing people, and the spreading of the Virus is NOT their fault in any way, shape, or form. They are working closely with us to get rid of it. WE WILL PREVAIL TOGETHER!”
She was encouraging people to visit Chinatown in San Francisco in late February. President Trump didn’t refer to coronavirus as a “Chinese virus” until March 16.

Just how does reporting deaths higher or lower make things look safe? Lying about new cases is understandable but deaths? Face it Owl the only reason you on the left are hung up on the death numbers is you hope it will hurt Trump.
It's your side that keeps hounding on the "body Count" not me. I say it doesn't matter unless the percentage rates start increasing.

On Feb. 1, Biden again criticized Trump for the move.
“We are in the midst of a crisis with the coronavirus. We need to lead the way with science — not Donald Trump’s record of hysteria, xenophobia, and fear-mongering. He is the worst possible person to lead our country through a global health emergency,” he wrote on Twitter.

He claimed on Thursday that he had been encouraging people early on to avoid public transportation if they could.
That just isn’t true.
Until March 10, this miserable excuse for a Mayor was still encouraging people to ride the subway. He even took a subway ride himself to encourage others to continue to do so on March 5.
He and his health officials said repeatedly it was unlikely to spread in that kind of setting, and claimed “You cannot contract it through casual contact, so the subway is not the issue” '

In conversations with several funeral directors across New York City, O’Keefe uncovered a shocking narrative where, without fail, every director he spoke to expressed his or her concern that coronavirus deaths are being inflated and every death in NYC is being recorded as a COVID death with or without testing to confirm.
“They are putting COVID on a lot of death certificates because people who are going to their hospital with any kind of respiratory distress, respiratory problems, pneumonia, the flu — the flu-like symptoms lead into the COVID-19,” said Joseph Antioco of Schafer Funeral Home. “To me, all you’re doing is padding the statistics. You’re putting people on that have COVID-19 even if they didn’t have it. You’re making the death rate for New York City a lot higher than it should be.”
One funeral director talked about a family who is related to an unnamed Supreme Court Justice who insisted on a private autopsy that discovered their relative did not have COVID-19. “I had one that was autopsied because the sister was famous, and apparently, and I don’t know who the Supreme Court Justice is, but the Supreme Court Justice was related to this family, and she says I know my sister didn’t die of COVID-19,” said Josephine Dimiceli of Dimiceli & Sons Funeral Home. “She said she had Alzheimer’s and they didn’t suction her. You have to suction because they forget how to swallow. And right away they put down COVID-19 on her death certificate, and the Supreme Court justice, whoever it is, contacted the hospital. They did an independent autopsy; bingo. No COVID-19.”
Dimiceli had other shocking tales to share. One nursing home assumed all its patients were positive without testing. “The guy that I just buried a little while ago from Long Island National Cemetery, they called me from the nursing home. They said, ‘Did Raymond have COVID-19?’ She said, ‘Well, no. It was a failure to thrive. But we’re assuming they all have it.’ And I’m all, ‘Why would you assume? Why aren’t they all in the hospital?’ She had no answer. ‘I can’t answer you,’ she said. They put it down on Raymond’s death certificate,” said Dimiceli. “He didn’t have COVID-19.”

Wrong, but you stay with that if it helps. My state has a (D) governor. If the horrible numbers Michigan are reporting are a reflection on her, then why would we LWers want accurate numbers? Wouldn't we want to be more like FL -- fudging the #s to make it look like it's under control?
Our overall numbers, compared to those of countries similar to ours, show a failure of leadership at the very top. We waited almost two months to implement stay-at-home orders in Michigan alone; far longer for guidance to come from the federal level. You guys can cry that "the death toll doesn't matter!" all you want; doesn't make it so.
Hospitals are empty.
Respirators are mainly used for final stages of life. Some are helped early on. We have a surplus of ventilators. Cuomo killed his nursing home patients.
You will die one day. If you are fortunate, it will be when you are old.
