Told you! FL Guv blocks COVID deaths from release by med. examiners

One reason for collecting accurate data is for future reference. For current use, knowing where so-called hot spots are is helpful in allocating resources, as well as taking measures to prevent things from getting worse. Florida is not accurately reporting cases, either.

"Florida is significantly under-reporting the state’s COVID-19 testing backlog, a blind spot in the data that could obscure the pandemic’s size and hamper efforts to decide when it’s safe to end restrictions such as social distancing — even as Gov. Ron DeSantis touts the state’s transparency when it comes to coronavirus.

"On its public website, the Florida Department of Health says about 1,400 people statewide are waiting for their test results. But that’s an undercount, the department acknowledged in response to questions from the Miami Herald. And it’s likely a massive one.

"That’s because the state only reports the number of Floridians waiting to hear back from state labs, not private ones — and those private labs are completing more than 90% of Florida’s tests. The state website doesn’t say that its figures exclude the vast majority of pending tests for the novel coronavirus."

To begin with the Tampa Bay Times is a very liberal paper so anything they report about the state and federal administrations will be slanted and taken with a grain of salt. Second are you aware the CDC has reduced the number of deaths from covid 19 by almost 50% from 60,000 down to 37,000. It looks like Governor Desantis wasn't as incorrect as you thought. :)

Private labs do 85 percent of U.S. COVID-19 tests but still struggle with backlogs, shortages

EVERY ailment, treatment, test, xray, lab, procedure, infection, OUTCOME--discharged or DEAD going into and out of a hospital has been 'coded' for at least 60 years.

But then the utter lack of general knowledge on this board is staggering. Truly profoundly STUPID people are parked here.

Not just here, but everywhere there is willful ignorance particularly when it comes to anything remotely sciency. I had a guy yesterday inform me that he knows all about this virus, how it is spread (tip: it's not airborne! hahahah), herd immunity, death rate, R-naught, etc. His occupation when not playing Internet Physician? Body shop guy and #COVID45 supporter.

Florida is now blocking medical examiners from releasing COVID-19 death totals

Published 4 mins ago on April 29, 2020
By Brad Reed

The state of Florida has now stopped its medical examiners from releasing numbers about people who have died from COVID-19.

The Tampa Bay Times reports that Florida’s state health department intervened earlier this month to suppress the medical examiners’ reports, which regularly showed death totals that were 10 percent higher than the official tallies put out by the state.

For the past nine days, no reports from the medical examiners have been made available to the public, and there’s no indication of when they will be released in the...

So you are saying there are 134 more deaths in Florida than has been reported?

Fuck, Cuomo kills more than that in 8 hours

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — In some ways, the financial reimbursement or loads of supplies received in each community are based on the number of COVID-19 cases.
But 9 Investigates uncovered a discrepancy in the way coronavirus deaths are recorded, and the Florida Department of Health is underreporting the actual number of people who have died from COVID-19 in Orange and Osceola counties.
9 Investigates requested the list of COVID-19 deaths from the medical examiner’s office several days in a row, and noticed that something seemed off: The numbers were a lot higher on that list than what the department of Health was reporting.
“Even though some of the infection may have happened here, or the person may have passed away here, it counts where the person resides,” Orange County Health officer Dr. Raul Pino said.
Coronavirus: Where COVID-19 testing is available in Central Florida
The medical examiner’s list shows 42 people have died in Orange County from COVID-19, and 13 have died from Osceola County. However, the Florida Department of Health is reporting only 30 people have died in Orange County, about a dozen less.
The Department of Health is reporting seven deaths in Osceola County, which is six less.
Pino said it would make sense if everybody recorded the data in the same way. He said the data is constantly being reviewed, but the reality is, when someone is being cared for in our hospitals and dies in Orange County but lived somewhere else, that death is being counted for where they live. (Grumpy-That is why there is the discrepancy not how many died but where.)
When asked if he’s worried that some of the numbers could slip through and not be counted when they should, Pino said, “That could always happen.”

Ok what is your complaint about this story looks like Trump fixed a reporting problem.

Ok I was misled by a bogus report so shoot me, feel better now? Does it really matter how many deaths from the virus. The real data needed is why did they die. If the virus aggravated a pre existing condition that is important. If it created it's own deadly action then we really need that info! But fucking body counts? Give me a break. You people on the left sound like the generals during Vietnam. They like the left were obsessed with body counts as if that proved something.

It's easy to be misled by screwy reporting if one isn't careful.

Why does it matter? Because these are the only metrics we currently have to allow decision-makers to determine when we can reopen closed segments of the economy, schools, gyms, movie theaters, and other places where large numbers of people gather in close quarters. Why does that matter? I'm sure you've seen what's been going on in NJ and NY, right? Patients stacked in hallways on gurneys because there are no rooms for them. Overwhelmed staff. (One physician took her own life in NY in despair.) Staff wearing the same PPE for an entire shift -- patient to patient -- because of the shortages. The dead stacked in refrigerated trailers. *That* is what the stay-at-home orders are trying to prevent. Can't stop the disease; all we can do is try to keep it from overwhelming our health care systems.

Unfortunately, getting a beer and a cheeseburger, or a manicure, or a cut-and-color, are more important than the lives of their fellow citizens and the health care workers, to some ppl. And that's why some states are under-reporting -- to justify reopening before the number of new cases has flattened. Even your own hero #COVID45's guidelines advise waiting till two weeks have passed once cases have leveled off.

I completely understand the need to see a downward trend in new cases prior to easing the stay at home orders. But tracking how many died is good for determining the lethality of the virus only. We have the data for that thus tracking deaths has zero to do with reopening.

Tell us Mr. Pulitzer prize winner just what does Florida gain for under reporting covid19 deaths? I can see under reporting cases or even hospitalizations but deaths? Who the fuck cares if it was 1% or 3% lethal? We all know older people are in more danger from the virus than younger people so other than morbid curiosity what does it accomplish?

Because she's a compulsive curtain twitcher that is scared of her own fucking shadow!

They should do what they did in Sweden keep the vulnerable off the streets and send the healthy to work. Without a vaccine or a powerful anti-viral those people will die anyway! It's alright for you with your financial genius hubby but most people need to go to work. They certainly don't need arrogant bitches that live in the land that time forgot to control their lives!

In times gone by people lived with polio, chickenpox, measles, mumps, smallpox and host of other nasty diseases. They didn't shut the countries down and destroy almost overnight hard won financial stability. I notice that just about all those calling for prolonged shutdowns are well heeled and retired. You've had your lives but want to deny the next generation theirs, selfish bastards.

And we have ANOTHER BELLIGERENT idiot.

It's one thing to lack common sense and have a LAZY intellect or just lack those requisite 10 additional IQ points to 'get it'. The poster above exhibits WILLFUL ignorance.

Just find an expert you trust, and don't move from the house until they tell you it's safe. Don't let the "belligerent idiots, lazy intellectuals, low IQers, and those with no common sense upset you so...
It's not healthy...and you just got better...don't want to relapse, do you?

An idiot who has an avatar of Fuck Trump has the temerity to call others belligerent. ROTFLMAO

Ok big mouth tell us what good tracking covid19 deaths tells the states when it's safe to reopen. I'll tell you numb nuts it doesn't all it does is prove how lethal the virus is. New cases and severity are some of the deciding factors.

Oh covid19 body counts are also important to you lefties because you think they will hurt Trump. What a smuck you are.
