My guess is they will. Since people are contagious up to a week or more before they become symptomatic, this could be another hot spot by the end of May.
Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis once wrote "state may, if its citizens choose, serve as a laboratory; and try novel social and economic experiments without risk to the rest of the country."
If Jacksonville wants to be a guinea pig, let them. I hope the best for them but there's a factual reality to this disease that all the wishing, hoping and praying won't fix.

Do you really think COVID-19 isn't as contagious as claimed? Do you really believe that an infected person talking to you 18 inches away can't transmit the disease? If you are correct, nothing will happen in Jacksonville. If you are wrong, then a lot of Americans will get sick and several will die.

This is common sense - not rocket science.
The beach is not where you will catch Covid -- the stores are.
Interestingly, Florida has around 25k confirmed cases while NY has a quarter of a million. Jacksonville, with a million residents, has about 800 confirmed cases.
If I get it I'll be a stat in the recovery column and then be immune to it.
I get an hour of daily sunlight in a semi-shady part of my yard, supplement with D3/K2, eat no sugar/carbs so I have a healthy immune system without needing a government
funded research report to tell me how to accomplish that, haven't had a flu shot in 10 years, never had any flu my entire life, haven't had a cold in 8 years and I've vaped for the
last 8 years using standard flavored ejuice which of course contains propylene glycol which is an air sanitizer used in asthma inhalers.
I'm not over 85 with an underlying medical condition taking handfuls of Rx for hypertension, bad cholesterol or high blood pressure. All those drugs also contribute to
a weak immune system.
So, open up the windows, get outside of a depressing house, read a book in the back yard, mow the lawn, trim some hedges and live.

....annnd like a drunk driver in the opposite lane, how do you prevent someone from harming you? You have no control over who sneezes on you, who coughs on you, who coughed into their hands then touched a doorknob, etc. If you want to go out, fine. If you want to role the dice on contagion by hanging out in crowds, fine. Just don't tell me it's 100% safe, that there is nothing to be concerned about.

Omg -- have you ever been on a beach before? The winds are so high and the space is so broad, you don't have to encounter anyone except the people you went with.

The beach is the LAST place you can catch Covid. If you're that concerned about people spreading it, rally to shut down the grocery stores where people are packed in and lined up like cattle. That's the place to catch it, guar-on-teed.

Thanks for the clarity on the picture.
The discussion was about being able to maintain social distancing on Jacksonville beaches this summer. Today it's rainy in Jacksonville, but as summer approaches and it gets hot and sweaty in Jacksonville by mid-May, do you think the beaches will fill up?
Again, I fully support States opening up as they see fit. They always had the power and only a fucking moron thinks the President has that power. If a state wants to open up when and in what manner is totally up to them. Let them be guinea pigs. If Jacksonville wants to open up its business and risk shutting them down again in July or August, that's their choice. I support that choice. I hope it works out for them. If not, then they only have themselves to blame. Not my problem.
