"What Trump's coronavirus briefings are really about"

"Trump began holding press briefings when he could no longer hold rallies, and for the same reason: He needs praise like he needs oxygen, and these briefings, like his campaign rallies, are his oxygen tank. Public health is not the point. They are about what Trump wants to hear, not what we need to know."

"When he talks about the pandemic, he's vague, misleading, and self-congratulatory, often at the same time. "We have a lot of things happening, a lot of very positive things"

"Trump boasts of the job he's supposed to be doing and cites people without proper names as confirmation. "Many doctors — and I've read many, many doctors — they can't believe the great job that we've done," he claimed. He said governors are "loving what we're doing," "were thanking us for the job we did," and "were very complimentary."

"When not praising himself, Trump vilifies those who fail to praise him as much as he does. He denounced "fake news" and "dishonest journalists."

"At his press briefings, Trump's sycophants, not health experts, do most of the talking, and most of their talking consists of praise for the president. They thank him for the opportunity to praise him. At Sunday's press briefing, the president's trade adviser Peter Navarro began his remarks by saying, "Thank you, sir. Thank you, Mr. President." He concluded by saying, "I salute you, sir."

"These are not press briefings. They are praise briefings."

Anyone other than a Trumpkin who has watched one of these Trump/Pence shows knows the article is correct. Especially nauseating is when Pence gets up and thanks President Trump for just about everything under the sun, I've even seen him get Trump's name in twice in the same short phrase. And the article doesn't even mention the misinformation Trump dishes out nearly daily. Is it any wonder Cuomo from New York has become a sensation with his daily updates

It is Trump attempting to make it all about Trump, again, "not press briefings, praise briefings," not quite what Americans are looking for from their President in a time of crisis

Trump’s Handling of Coronavirus Approved by 60% in Gallup PollMarch 24, 2020, 5:05 PM EDT

President matches all time high of 49% for overall approval

Democrats, independents rally to president amid viral outbreak

Some six in 10 Americans approve of the job Donald Trump is doing to combat the coronavirus crisis, pushing the president’s approval rating – 49% - to the highest of his presidency, according to a poll released Tuesday by Gallup.

Trump’s gains come as his standing has improved among Democrats and independents amid the viral outbreak, which has killed more than 660 people even as the nation has adopted strict rules limiting public gatherings. Trump’s job approval numbers are up 6 points among Democrats and 8 points among independents, according to the survey.

And voters are largely giving Trump positive marks for his handling of the pandemic, with 94% of Republicans, 60% of independents, and 27% of Democrats approving of his efforts. That’s higher than his general approval rating among each group.

Based on poll numbers people seem to like them lol.

Many opinion writers are simply unable get past Trump. They’re simply obsessed with him. If you watch the briefings looking for Trump being Trump—Trump never disappoints. But if you tune in *objectively* you also see a president who is very much engaged with what’s going on.

This COVID thing is the story of the decade [it has much to live up to and it’s not quite there yet—but that’s another story]; 100’s of millions of people are anxious about it and they like seeing a ‘very much engaged’ President surrounded by some pretty competent people. And they apparently like seeing it every day.

Makes it very easy to tune out the rest.

You don't suppose the though of getting a check for $1200 by many individuals, had anything to do with the bounce in Trump's approval rating????????????

Fine. Let's get back to the Dims whining "where's Trump?...he should be out there talking about it!...he's hiding somewhere!...where's Trump's daily briefings!!!!" :palm:

Dims seem to think it's more important to have shows giving political opinions
ABOUT the briefing rather than hear the ACTUAL briefings. :palm:
