I hired two people this week plus I'm employing my neighbor as a trainer and scout. He found me two candidates for the job. The first young man excelled and has been put on the fast track for training. Today he ran a drum sander for an entire 500 sqft project. The project is a rental unit that doesn't require top quality and my neighbor is being paid to refinish it. I paid his labor costs in exchange for his time training and he gets to collect the revenue on the project all for himself. I supplied the equipment and materials as well. It's a total win for my neighbor and it's a total win for me as well. For a mere $250 I got workers trained and any mistakes will not harm me.
So the pair of workers did their first staining today and got to see what their work looks like. I can't wait to see it. I was busy on the big project.
I also employed another guy the last two weeks to install floors. He's gotten up to a respectable speed and nearly completes a unit in a day instead of two.
Now I have an opportunity that has sprung up from the owner of the commercial building to do the floors in 8 apartments in Pittsburgh. Some 3000 sqft to install and about 4000 sqft of old floors to refinish. The project is to begin 4/6. LOL at first I told him I had too much work, but his project is about double the total of my projects combined, so there's no way I can justify not taking this opportunity. Even if I have to lowball a little, we're still talking about $30K or more. I have all of the people who helped on this project willing to go on a road trip and get some floors done. This is going to be a great year.
