Fighting against abortion is a losing battle. This was resolved 50 years ago. The country isn't going back to banning abortions, whether you want it that way or not.
It doesn't even matter if you could convince pro-choicers it's a full grown baby on day 0 of gestation. They do not care. They believe pregnancy by default makes women second class citizens, harming their ability to work/have careers, harming their economic parity with men, harming their overall freedom. They believe killing a developing baby and sucking it's brains out with a suction tube is a worthy price to pay. Of course, if you falcon punch them in the ovaries or put ru486 in their coffee because you don't want the kid either, they will still make sure you get charged with murder. It's only a human life when it is convenient.
I am not sure I blame women. If I was a woman, I'd probably abort a baby too. But that's me. Do people want to be like me?
On the other hand, sometimes I surprise myself. Maybe i'd be more principled.
It's impossible to say I suppose.
Lets just have the intellectual honesty that you value your freedom more than the life inside you, even if it WERE a baby. Then we can at least have a honest conversation.
However, from a strategic standpoint, re: republicans, this is a losing battle. We are not going to ban aborition. It's not going to happen. Keep pushing this, republicans will lose, and they will keep losing until they learn that women are just as selfish as men are, and are every bit as hypocritical, and suffer from just as much cognitive dissonance as the next person.
There is no such thing as true altruism. There is no such thing as putting others before yourself. We are selfish apes living a violent and destructive life, hustling and angling and looking to climb over the next body on our way up maslow's hierarchy of needs. You'll be scratched and kicked and bit and killed if you stand in anyones way. This is who we are. It is the most powerful motivating force in all of human existence. It cannot be stopped.
If that means a baby/fetus is in the way, it will be aborted.
