This is the exact argument fabric mills would say to women who worked the machinery. They were easily replaceable to simply run a machine that does most the work. Lots of workers dying to get a chance to work for scraps.

It's basic economics. Surpluses mean lower prices and shortages mean higher prices. When the job can be filled by just about anyone by picking a random person off the street, it isn't going to pay much.

If the only skills one has is in the "service industry", the only person he/she has to blame is him/herself. Rather than trying to better him/herself, they beg for more.

Yes but 'basic economics' doesn't care about he human condition, and neither do capitalists. The industrial revolution was followed by the Progressive Era of US history. The new industrial advancements of oil and mass steal production made the richest men ever seen at the time - the a massive impoverished army of workers. But eventually those workers starting organizing and making demands - even worse the brought their demand to the Supreme Court. The government even engaged on breaking up monopolies and setting aside land for "national parks" - truly the most evil socialist program I've ever seen.

Given the financial burden a college education typically comes with it's not really that easy. But perhaps if we as a society invested more in education, especially at the highschool level, more people could go on to university or trade school.

Economics explains the human condition. Those with low skills get a skill equivalent low wage and vice versa. What capitalism allows people to do is improve their skills so they aren't shitty and they can make a higher wage.

Those that organized and start making demands were the one that had shitty skills but wanted to be paid more than they were worth. If they were honorable, they would have improved themselves instead of being beggars.

Spending for public education has done nothing but go up. The results have not improved at the same pace.

All four of us with what will be a combined 9 degrees and absolutely no debt. There's a reason for that. As parents, we invested in their education and as students, both earning lots in scholarships, they invested in their own, as well.

If parents of a kid don't think their own is a good enough investment for them, they can't tell me their child is a good investment for me.

You do realize we're talking about an era in which public university was mostly attended by rich people right? And that many people. especially women, had to work for a daily wage to avoid starvation. That's not ideal school attendance conditions.

It's the mindset that if you can make more excuses, it means someone that has more than progressives think they should have should be forced to support someone else. I didn't buy that education. My wife and I sacrificed lots of things to be able to provide for OUR children. I shouldn't have to explain that concept but it's clear someone with a gimme, gimme, gimme upbringing thinks others should be responsible for things which are their responsibility.

When did I ever imply this? Of course I know other income levels go to college. But most rich people will go to the elite and best colleges. As the recent scandal show's they'll even lie about their aptitude and bribe their way in. Poor people can't do that.
