Local government tells us we need more money to deal with the problem We have ballot measures that pass to raise taxes for more money to spend on the homeless. That example applies to many other government programs. When they don't function how we would like we instantly call for more money instead of asking how can we better run this program? What changes can we make?

On a separate point remember the income tax was sold at the time as something that would only apply to the uber rich? We see how that ended up. Similar to what they are doing today with the wealth tax.

Exactly, my friend. Governments receive revenue from taxes. They have no incentive to work efficiently or frugally. If they spend too much, they just raise taxes to make up the difference. It's up to the people to reign their frivolous, irresponsible spending.
