I say we return to the tax rates we had during the prosperous Bill Clinton era.
That we reduce Pentagon spending substantially.
And tax investment wealth at rates commensurate with how we tax wages from labor.
I am not exactly sure if I am boomer, or GenX, but I will cop to a certain amount of laziness, disregard, and lack of civic duty. The only public protests I can ever recall participating in were the anti-Iraq War protests. Believe it or not, there were former wingnut posters who thought I deserved to be sent to Gitmo for even daring to think the invasion of Iraq was a dumb ass idea!
I have spend a lifetime taking full advantage of Kenyan-Marxist-Socialism - I have been quite the hog in using subways, light rail, buses, and other public transportation. I abusively over-use national parks and public libraries. I hogged tax payer money to attend public university. And worst of all, I have steadfastly articulated in support of Medicare, when my elderly mother, aunts, and uncles undoubtedly could have easily reaped the benefits of the magic of the free markets and just shopped around private insurance companies for an affordable, high quality policy.

Look at you dropping some knowledge this morning. You hit on the fundamental point (which is bigger than the usual 'vote Democrat' or 'vote Republican') about what drives politicians (and voters who don't hold politicians responsible thus enabling the behavior).
I'll offer a local example but there are hundreds of them. Homelessness in San Francisco. We all want to help. Local government tells us we need more money to deal with the problem We have ballot measures that pass to raise taxes for more money to spend on the homeless. Yet over time the problem continues to get worse. Then politicians then say we need even more money... At a certain point the issue is more than funding.
That example applies to many other government programs. When they don't function how we would like we instantly call for more money instead of asking how can we better run this program? What changes can we make?
On a separate point remember the income tax was sold at the time as something that would only apply to the uber rich? We see how that ended up. Similar to what they are doing today with the wealth tax.
There is no argument. Its proven....taxing the wealthy at 100% does not work. Where is your PROOF......of one example of a successful Socialist Government in world history? ONE EXAMPLE. In practice: No one is forced to purchase any product or service offered in a free market society. Capitalism is the only ideology that allows for freedom and liberty based upon FREE WILL.
