It's a fair argument to say the Church covered up pedophilia for decades. It's also fair to say that Protestants also covered up pedophilia for decades, Judaism covered up pedophilia for decades, schools have covered up pedophilia for decades, Boy Scouts covered up pedophilia for decades, Penn State covered up pedophilia for decades etc.
So this is a "both sides" argument.
This is an attempt to heap equal scorn on everyone else for the faults of one specific thing.
Unlike the Catholic Church, the shuffling around of abusive leaders wasn't institutionalized in other religions the way it was institutionalized by the Catholic Church. Because the CC is run as a top-down institution, it has a higher level of accountability than other religions. It is well documented that the top officials of the Catholic Church not only knew about the abuse by their priests and nuns, but actively covered it up by devising an entire system within the Catholic Church to quietly handle it.
While I hate all religion equally, the Catholic Church is not a religion but a religious organization with the institutional infrastructure that was designed to beat the church with as little accountability as possible. We must ask why is it that perverts and abusers are drawn to groups, organizations, institutions like the Catholic Church, the boy Scouts, etc.?
