Religions are easy to figure out if you see them as corporations fighting for money and power. Religion is what the followers profess. The elite are businessmen trying to preserve their power and income. The Pope and Vatican did not cover up child abuse in the name of god and principles, but for money and controlling the bad press. That is not what a real religion would do, but exactly what a corporation would.
Those on top live like kings accumulating their wealth from the struggling masses. They don't care if the followers suffer as long as they tithe.
 
Nothing undemocratic should be allowed to have that much power.

When one of the rules is its own infallibility and it issues orders under pain of eternal damnation, it makes my spidey sense more than tingle.

The Catholic Church is one of the most critical Christian groups of Trump. It's why we have so many trump faithful getting pissy about the church and trying to disown this Pope. It's hilarious after all the years they kept using the last Pope to try and shove their ideas down people's throat. That behavior is in antithesis to Christian doctrine.

Being organized anything will often mean you have a fringe among your ideology. It's a free thing and not some exclusive group. Everyone from cafeteria-style Christians to the mentally unfit can take part. A lot of people of Christian faith do little more then go to church on Sunday. All organized religion has its dark days as most aspects of humanity did. The entirety of society was barbaric by most standards today back then.

No, it was about escaping Anglican oppression. Everybody at that time had to belong to the Church of England and those who didn't want to belong at all (Pilgrims) were called "separatists."

Puritans left because they thought Anglicanism had too many Catholic aspects to it and they wanted it changed or reformed. Charles I threatened those who didn't obey the Church of England.

you are trying to create a pretend reality. There are a variety of protestant sects from non anglican countries so stop being a dumb fuck.

The simple fact that the Catholic Church knew about and covered up decades -probably centuries- of child abuse by Priests should have led to the destruction of the Catholic Church, the jailing of top officials, and the seizure of its global assets.

No amount of good they can do will ever balance out the bad.
