Parents should but often they don't. The kids were my responsibility from 7AM to 3PM or more. They did not ever go hungry...or without what they needed if we could help....This isn't your momma's school...or the school you remember....
They're "failing" for many reasons...another thread, perhaps....
I still provide food,etc.... and I've been retired for years...

I appreciate that and it was YOUR choice. Not the Governments. ;)

I would have reported the parents that were denying their children basic care and looked into the actual reasons a child in this country would even go without.

BUT, Government programs will only create MORE disasters and dependency, not less.

It is my choice..or any teacher who decides to help out...We report when it's abuse or neglect...but the problem is much bigger than that...
Not the government's responsibility....but I've no problem with school's providing breakfast/lunch...I'll take that over administrative conferences and ridiculous new curriculum/testing any day...
Hungry kids can't learn no matter what programs you put in place....

In reality, the system doesn't have any money as you claimed it did. The system produces no product nor provides a service that brings in revenue.
