Real Time" host Bill Maher cautioned Democrats on Friday night as they begin impeachment proceedings against President Trump, predicting that the country will be "paralyzed for a very long time" if they go through with it.

Maher began the panel discussion by expressing how he has been "back and forth" on impeachment and how he has doubts as House Democrats launch a formal inquiry.

"Last week, I was like, 'We've got to impeach him!' Now that they're going to do it, I'm like 'Uh... should we?'" Maher said. "Obviously, there's great reasons to do it... Trump must have an impeachment act a day calendar that he has used for the past year, so why will this one be different from all the other times?"

The HBO star questioned whether the Trump-Ukraine controversy will resonate with the American people "east of La Brea." :rolleyes:


"This is all I heard on TV this week, 'This is different because it's so simple, people could understand it.' But have you met the American people? Are there pictures involved?" he argued.

Maher then expressed his agreement with panelist Noah Rothman, who mocked Democrats who claim they can "walk and chew gum at the same time" between legislating and pursuing impeachment.

"If we do this, the country is going to be paralyzed," Maher continued. "I'm not saying don't... It's going to be paralyzed for a very long time and all of the oxygen in the room will be taken by this."

That's about the stupidest argument I've ever heard.
Congress was presented with facts from a Whistleblower, they were FORCED to act.

Maher is weighing the pros and cons, and presenting a very effective argument that impeachment is political overkill.

Recall the Constitution calls for a high crime or misdemeanor -not a disagrement over policy by the whistle blower.

No quid pro quo, no"pressure" per Zelensky -just Democratic TDS is driving this crazy train
 
That's completely false.
Trump is extorting the Ukrainians.
Trump is withholding vitally needed Military Aid, Aid that has no strings attached and is to be used to stop Russian aggression on Ukrainian soil, and is asking a 'Favor'.

What is important here? American Aid to stop Russian aggression? ... or some personal 'Favor' requested by Trump?

i watched every episode of real time up till around 2017. He used to have good discussion on his show but after trump he just booked token nevertrumpers every single time and it turned into a never ending circlejerk.

The ONLY firsthand witness claims there was no pressure.

This should be over with that, because without a quid it just leaves Trump requesting a re-investigation on the Biden’s. Trump didn’t say he wanted something/anything dirt to get knock Biden out of the race [ironically, democrats did that by hyperventilating over this].

Even if Trump requested Steele-Dossier type dirt on the Biden’s—so what? So, what’s the problem with that?

That’s the new norm, right democrats?

Murphy is full of shit. Ukraine wasn't notified of a suspension, they just thought it was part of a normal review getting the weapons to them. They were never notified otherwise.

if as Murphy claims Zelensky did know about the suspension ( not a "cut off" per Murphy) -
and Zelensky did not mention a quid pro quo ( which would be Trump's phone call/something specific)
how could Trump have been "pressuring" Zelensky???
