Have you forgotten the El Paso shooting already? That took place at a Walmart store, a gun free zone! (Walmart doesn't allow open carry in their stores). What would have happened if someone shot back and killed the mass murderer before he got very far? Less death, that's what!

You are also conveniently forgetting the other mass murders at shopping malls.

It happens in the public places. Hence open carry.

The right of self-defense exists in the Constitution.

It is specifically mentioned in the 2nd amendment, true. But the Constitution does not grant this right. It only prohibits government from interfering with it. The right to defend yourself, and the right of a State to defend itself, is inherent. Even an animal has the right to defend itself to the best of its ability.

I'd much prefer carrying concealed as to not scare you, oh delicate snowflake.

I usually conceal carry, but also open carry from time to time (a pistol), especially when at the airport. More people at that airport are armed now,since we had a rash of aircraft thefts.

One recent case of theft was stopped by a mechanic who was armed. Those crooks are spending 20 years in the Walla Walla penitentiary now. No one was shot. He called the cops and held them at gunpoint until the cops arrived.

I never understood open carry.

Openly carrying a gun in and of itself can prevent a crime. If they are considering a crime and they see someone who is armed, they will usually go elsewhere rather than mess with it.

It opens the possibility someone could go for it [even though the gun grabber could be making a fatal mistake if the gun owner is carrying more than one weapon] which makes it less safe than concealed carry.

This comes down to the holster. Sure, they could go for it, they will lose their hand and lower arm in the process. If they get so far as to get their hand on your gun, a simple move will break their arm instantly. If you are at all away of your surroundings (which you should be if you carry a gun!), he won't even get that far.

I think concealed carry is a wonderful thing: it forces criminals to play a guessing game in picking out victims. I know several women at work who carry. And those are the ones I know about.

That it is. This simple fact protects those who don't carry right there.

There are advantages and disadvantages to both. Open carry can send a message to a prospective criminal, while concealed carry makes 'em guess.
