Walmart pulls video game sales but continues supplying all the guns anybody wants

"“We are a learning organization, and, as you can imagine, we will work to understand the many important issues that arise from El Paso and Southaven, as well as those that have been raised in the broader national discussion around gun violence,” Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said in a note to employees. “We will be thoughtful and deliberate in our responses, and we will act in a way that reflects the best values and ideals of our company, with a focus on serving the needs of our customers, associates and communities.”"

"On Thursday, another potential shooting at a Walmart was foiled when a man carrying a rifle and wearing body armor was stopped by an off-duty firefighter and held at gunpoint before police arrived at the Missouri store."

There is no evidence that violent video games have any connection to mass shootings.
They are GAMES.

Bad customer relations move.

“Recent acts of extreme violence involving teens and associated links to violent video games have led to an increased interest in video game violence. Research suggests that violent video games influence aggressive behavior, aggressive affect, aggressive cognition, and physiological arousal. Anderson and Bushman [Annu. Rev. Psychol. 53 (2002) 27.] have posited a General Aggression Model (GAM) to explain the mechanism behind the link between violent video games and aggressive behavior. However, the influence of violent video games as a function of developmental changes across adolescence has yet to be addressed. The purpose of this review is to integrate the GAM with developmental changes that occur across adolescence” .cedirect.com

Walmart stopped selling handguns in the 1990s, with the exception of Alaska. It stopped selling assault-style weapons in 2015.

I never thought of gaming as a left or right favored thing.

Do you have any science to back that up?

The president suggests that violent video games may be contributing to a culture where violence is in some way acceptable and the left is immediately up in arms (pun intended) that video games dont do that.
I do recall reading reports that this may well be the case much as violent films may.
Not seeing the right freaking out over video games.

Of course the right is freaking out over video games -- they're the ones claiming that they're the cause of mass shootings.

We grew up watching the Three Stooges, Looney Tunes with Coyote getting blown up or dropped off a cliff, ever-more-violent movies charmingly called "action flicks," then video games featuring wars, shootings, monsters, bombs, more shooting, etc. etc. etc. Yet not a single one of my siblings or my kids/nieces/nephews/g-kids have ever committed a violent act against another except in self-defense, and that was only me, not them. And it involved my fist, not a firearm. Millions of people around the world enjoy video games and "action flicks" -- yet the U.S. is the one with the huge mass shooting problem.

Video games are not the problem.

Easy availability of military-grade firearms IS.

I absolutely agree with this. Mrs. Owl and I are on completely opposite sides of the gun debate but to try to blame shootings on violent video games is just plain dumb.

nice gesture, but much like mental illness video games do not motivate mass shooters - let's see some evidence that they do anyone

racial hatred and white supremacism spark these shootings, make no mistake

It is not a defense of any particular set of video games. It is staying on message that this is about the guns. That is the one common theme with all of big mass these shootings. they have high capacity guns. That is why the talk about video games is being rejected. There is no connection to video games. Saying video games after a mass shooting with no evidence of it is denial. That denial is being called out.

And the knives.
If they want to kill there is always a way.
