More barn owls (and other raptors as well) die from secondary poisoning from the use of rodenticides and lead shot than are killed by windmills. But don't let that ruin the narrative that alternative energy = evil.

But since the most beloved and popular politicians of the modern era within the conservative base are the noted nitwits Ronnie Raygun, George Dumbya Bush, Sarah Palin, Donald Trumpf, we certainly have more than enough data now to conclude these are not outliers. As long as there are humans on the planet, we are going to be impacting the natural landscape and the environment.
Minimizing the risk is always the goal.
More wildlife is killed and more ecosystem damage is done by petroleum extraction, petrochemical production, uranium mining and nuclear accidents and nuke waste --- More than will ever be done by properly engineered wind farms.
You would have to be a person willing to indulge in extraordinary dishonesty and deception by attempting to draw a false equivalency between the environmental impact of wind farms, and the ecological impact of the petroleum industry.

I don't believe Dutch type windmills are what the president was referring to. But I do remember the Kennedy clan getting windmills off the coast that could be seen killed. So I am sure that a windmill in ones neighborhood could affect property values. As to the cancer claim we do know noise pollution can cause some medical conditions.

Our local native community (KBIC) is having an informational meeting next week on campus regarding the proposal to put 49 500-ft tall wind turbines in ceded territory back in the virtually untouched Huron Mountains to our west. They are against it for the environmental disruption construction and servicing will cause.
Noise pollution can cause anxiety and depression in some ppl (I'm one of them) but there is zero evidence that it causes cancer.

I agree about the cancer thing but we have just scratched the surface on cancer causes. Just look at the medical strides that have been made in cancer treatment during our lifetimes. When we were younger cancer was almost a death sentence.
