Nader goes off on Obama, says he's acting white

My meaning was unclear. I didn't intend to suggest that Nader doesn't pay attention to those issues, just that no one, Nader included, has bothered to pay attention to Obama's policy proposals on those issues. There are out there and he has highlighted them in some of his speeches. That's why this particular criticism rings hollow.

And sure, people voted for Nader, but "many" is a stretch and there is a reason he lost, and badly. Nader's views are way way out of the mainstream and his attempt to goad Obama into talk about these issues all the time is, like his campaign in 2000, destructive to the cause he professes to care so much about.

I agree.

Personally, I think it's time for Ralph Nadar to shut the fuck up.

You're one of my favorite people here my brother and I value your perspective .. but take a look at the Senate vote I just previously posted. Obama might talk about it, but he didn't DO anything about payday loans when he had the chance.

I believe Obama is the best chance we have to right the course of the country .. but I'm not supporting him blindly. He will NEED Americans who support him to make him a better president. We can't be like those on the right who blindly goosestep to marching orders and remain silent.

Nader knew he was never going to win .. no third party candidate can win within the two-party duopoly that controls American politics. Nader was in the race to FORCE issues to the table that the democrats were never going to talk about .. no differently than Bob Barr is in the race to force McCain to address issues he thinks are important. That's the only vialble role for third-parties in America.

Should Bob Barr shut the fuck up?

Should Nader shut the fuck up about issues that are real to the African-American community?

Should anyone who disagrees with Obama shut the fuck up?

I don't understand shut the fuck up when it comes to politics.

Ralph Nadar has done shit for years now other than feed his own ego and put George bush in office. He was something once, now he’s nothing but a monstrous ego.
Fuck Nadar.

Capping loans isn't going to get to the root issues of poverty.

No it isn't and the legislation wasn't intended to end poverty .. it was meant to stop the loan-sharking that takes advantage of desperate people.

His words do not match his actions on this issue.

I agree with every word you just said .. however, the ISSUES he's talking about are real. Personally, I'm glad to hear ANYBODY talking about them .. even if it was George Bush, I'd be glad to hear it.

Otherwise, they continue to get completely ignored.

Obama has to get into office first. Then, grass roots activists must put the fire under his ass, on all fronts. But I don’t think that Nadar trying to call out Obama on issues like this, at this particular moment, is the way.

Barack Obama can honestly claim to have made a difference on a matter of life and death.

Obama cites his role in Illinois' death penalty debate as proof he can solve problems through compromise.

While an Illinois state senator, Obama was key in getting the state's notorious death penalty laws changed, including a requirement that in most cases police interrogations involving capital crimes must be recorded.

The changes enacted in 2003 reformed a system that had sent 13 people to death row, only to have them released because they were later determine to be innocent or had been convicted using improper methods.

"Without Barack's energy, imagination and commitment I do not believe the very substantial and meaningful reforms that became law in Illinois would have taken place," said author Scott Turow, a member of the state commission that recommended many of the changes.

I agree .. but the death penalty is far less destructive to black communites as the "war on drugs" and the obvious and documented racism of the criminal system which continues to sentence blacks much more harshly for the exact same crimes whites get probation or nobation for.

My hope is that he understands this evil and will do something about it when in office.

That's my hope.

Of course its not the way and its why liberals have been so bad at winning elections in recent years. If we continue to knock each other down in the general we'll continue to hand elections to the republicans. Did the libertarian wing of the republican party whisper a peep in 2000 or air their grievances in 2004? No. They stfu just enough to let their major party win. Are these good points? yes. And despite what Nader says, I think Obama has these interests at heart. But again. Its game on and we need to play to win this time around, Frankly, that's all I care about at this point. Not his reluctance to pay lipservice to my specific raison d'etre.

Much love for you sister but I have never seen anyway to bring attention to this issue that actually works. The Democratic Party will completely ignore this and there will NEVER be a time that is the correct time.

My problem with Obama is that he's too wrapped in staged perceptions. Democrats have never touched the injustice of the criminal system because they didn't want to appear "soft on crime." Bill Clinton ran from that perception so hard that he became the greatest incarceration president in American history .. and democrats said nothing .. not a peep. But oh how they talked about Bush being the execution governor.

We exist in two America's my sister and far too often issues that are important to the black communty only get in the way of what liberals want to do .. not suggesting you of course.

I want to hear these issues discussed and if the are "inconvienient" for Obama .. that would indeed be sad. I'm not looking for him to be the Black President, but what's the point of having a black president if he's too timid to deal with issues that devastate the black community.

See what I mean. Even when he reforms a system that has systematically murdered innocent Black Americans for years, still not enough and he could have done more.

Black thinks Nader is a messiah because hey look guys "a white guy is talking about urban issues".... this guy must be a genius!

HELL NO!

There has been many progressive white people who have alot more credibility than Ralph Nader....Ralph Nader is one of the most disingenious people ever....

You must not realize that Ralph Nader is a multi-millionaire....

And when he was railing against the big oil companies and car companies he must have not told you that he holds significant stocks in GM 150k, and ExxonMobil 100k...

Thanks blackascoal for coming out....

BAC I'm not disagreeing with you, but isn't it incumbent upon the POTUS to represent the issues that most broadly reflect the concerns of the people of the US? Not just one group? I agree that the concerns of the black community should be addressed, but not as the primary focus, just because the President happens to be black. It would have been like JFK addressing abortion, if it had been legal back then, no?

On the issues Nader was talking about .. name them .. or once again prove yourself the dummy.

Name them.

Obama is not just black. Hes white also as well as an American who happens to care for all Americans.

The problems in the gettos are more economic and social than black.

Education, job training, daycare as well as housing issues for all poor not just for blacks will be on his agenda.

if imus said this he would be fired. dont know why some people can talk openly and others are gagged under threat of public humiliation on race issues. seems to be a double standard
