JACKSONVILLE, Florida (Reuters) - Democratic presidential contender Barack Obama said on Friday he expects Republicans to highlight the fact that he is black as part of an effort to make voters afraid of him.

"It is going to be very difficult for Republicans to run on their stewardship of the economy or their outstanding foreign policy," Obama told a fundraiser in Jacksonville, Florida. "We know what kind of campaign they're going to run. They're going to try to make you afraid.

"They're going to try to make you afraid of me. He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And did I mention he's black?"

He said he was also set for Republicans to say "he's got a feisty wife," in trying to attack his wife Michelle.

"We know the strategy because they've already shown their cards. Ultimately I think the American people recognize that old stuff hasn't moved us forward. That old stuff just divides us," he said....

"They're going to try to make you afraid of me. He's young and inexperienced and he's got a funny name. And did I mention he's black?"

Now someone tell me what is wrong with this statement?

Wrong? Dunno. Sounds a lot like those goofs that were calling Democrats unpatriotic for not supporting the war. In this case, if anyone votes against him, it's out of fear or prejudice.

It's wrong because Obama is infering others(republican voters) are saying those words. They are not. It's called a strawman.

It's also wrong because what people are supposedly "scared of", or more specifically do not like are his late 1970's Jimmy Carter policy proposals.

Kind of ironic Obama is throwing out that 'his opponents' will try to scare you about his age and inexperience while he and his supporters will try and scare others about McCain and his age.

It's good politics by Obama but 'changing the way Washington works?' Please. He is playing the game just like everyone else, he just happens to be playing it well. And this 'he has to do what it takes to win and then he can change things when he gets there' talk isn't going to fly either.

Bush had a legitimate record in Texas of working with Democrats. A lot of good that did him in Washington. He may have united in Texas but he sure didn't in D.C. Obama thinks he's going to change that? Come on now...

Well, they kind of are though aren't they.

Can you honestly put your hand on your heart and say that you're expecting to get through to November without hearing or seeing any criticism of Obama based on his inexperience and race?

And i doubt Obama was only referring to Republicans. Those pesky racists get everywhere.

Nope kathy he said nothing about voting.

He said they are going to try to make people fear him in a number of ways.

He did not say anyone who votes other than him were ANYTHING!

I know there are racists. But a few bad apples shouldn't allow some people to speculate that the whole bunch is spoiled.

Would it be racist to think something is wrong with anything President Obama says?

No.

Conversely, it is absolutely absurd to say that racism will not be part of this campaign, as it was in the primaries.

See that? There is actually a middle ground, between "sssshhh....don't talk about it," and your hyperbole that any criticism of Obama is racist.

How 'bout that.
