Who says guns don't stop criminals

Relax folks. No one is saying don't have guns. This is simply a discussion of what is good to have to stop a burglary.

I like a dog, but it doesn't help when I travel. It also isn't going to help until I get another dog, and even then it will be a while before the puppy grows enough to be useful.

But there is no need for hostility.

There is often hostility at AssHat on this board.

You can believe that bullshit if you must, but guns don't dissuade crime .. iof thta were true burglars wouldn't exist. They sneak in at night or when you're not home to get around your gun.

Dog present .. they usually go somewhere else.

Crime deterred.

In any nation where guns are outlawed, violent crime goes up. You want statistics or do you want to just stfu right now?

Why do a break at night anyway? Folks are home. Best to make sure everyone's at work/school during the daytime.

But someone who really wants to do you harm can shoot your dog. Then what einstein? Oh you can only maintain your argument if we keep the discussion on simple burglary? Thought so.

If someone seriously wants to do you harm your gun isn't going to stop them moron.

At that point your best weapon is your brain .. which kinda explains why you need a gun.

The point of this conversation IS burglary and burglars entering you home.

Yes it is. How would it not? Bionic superburglars?

Right. Your argument only holds up under one minute scenario. Shoot the dog and your theory is all washed up.

If someone wants to do you harm there are only about ONE ZILLION ways they can get you that neutralizes your security blanket. Can you possibly be too dumb not to know this.

The subject is burglars and protecting your home .. and it's real obvious why you don't want to stay there.

Sorry Water - I am so bloody prosaic I don't believe it myself.

Yep lets see. I'm just going to burst open the window, then take this COLOR TV!!!!

Ouch...

What? Where am I? Is that you Saint Peter? I could've sworn you didn't exist.

Guess that didn't work as I planned.

Yeah moron .. give me your statistics.

Tell me how Britian is a more violent nation than America.

Crime did not fall in England after handguns were banned in 1997. Quite the contrary, crime rose sharply. In May, the British government reported that gun crime in England and Wales nearly doubled in the last four years. Serious violent crime rates from 1997 to 2002 averaged 29% higher than 1996; robbery was 24% higher; murders 27% higher. Before the law, armed robberies had fallen by 50% from 1993 to 1997, but as soon as handguns were banned, the armed robbery rate shot back up, almost back to their 1993 levels. The violent crime rate in England is now double that in the United States.

"There are three kinds of lies: lies, damned lies, and statistics." - Benjamin Disraeli

Crime fell in the 90's Asshat. Subsequently, everything in the world that happened in the 90's has been attributed to that.

A single instance of crime rise using carefully selected statistics from carefully selected years to back your claims up just isn't enough to establish a pattern at all.
