3 Reasons Why Gillette's 'Toxic Masculinity' Ad Is Incredibly Stupid And Degrading

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Virtue_signalling

Virtue signalling is the public expression of opinions that show one's own good character or moral correctness.

of course the right wing sociopaths usurped the use of the phrase to VIRTUE SIGNAL to their minions that expressing ones morals and teaching them to children is BAD

just like fake news

the phrase was used in an FBI report about the Russian tampering

and the right immediately usurped that phrase to heave at all stations EXCEPT FOX who actually repeated the Russian fake news stories

fuck you moral less lying idiots

anyone who thinks this is a bad thing

is a bad thing

Call me bad then...or do you suffer from estrogen poisoning or toxic femininity? Oh...you find that offensive? Imagine that. Would you like me to lecture you on proper behavior? Oh...that's offenisve too? Imagine that! Well if you can imagine that maybe you can imagine why most men find such a self emasculating commercial offensive. Who the fuck is Gillette to lecture me on proper behavior? I don't need some corporate asshole lecturing me on sexual harrassment.

Gillette may want to start specializing in ladies razors. If they think they can get away with insulting their customers like this then why should I purchase their products??

They are the problem.

Excuse me? I am?

Look I'm all for being a gentleman and I am as egalitarian as they come and those who sexually harrass women deserve to be thrown screaming from a helicopter. But having some corporate asshole lecture me on how to emasculate myself with their product crosses a line. Fuck Gillette. Who the hell do they think they are to lecture me?

you also dont need anyone selling you anything in a commercial

mankind needs morals

it doesnt need commercials

and Dude you don't much like women

you talk crap here about the one person in the world most people love the most

your life partner

some people just don't seem to like other humans much

maybe because they have not been properly taught how to interact with others in a positive way

Every society that ignores passing to the younger generation positive human interaction doesn't last long

being angry at a company for thinking its OK to talk of morals positively is kinda sad

:dunno: It seems like a boring ad about acting like a human being rather than painting your douche canoe black with dumbassery. If you don't like it just don't buy their stuff, plenty of people make the same stuff.

Like I said I use Schick...but this is an offensive commercial. Corporate America isn't exactly who I look up to for moral leadership. In fact, just the opposite.

Why are you offended if you aren’t guilty? I’ve never understood this.

I won't buy their blades anymore. I don't appreciate being compared with bad people I don't know or have anything in common with besides having a penis. Stupid ad. I've been a customer for 35 years. Now I'll try one of those online ones and see if their blades are any good.

It's particularly insulting coming from a corporation who has no business lecturing anyone on proper behavior. I don't need Gillette to inform me how to behave. Maybe this is just psychological projection from their board room.

It's a double standard Desh. That's why it's offensive. The term "toxic masculinity" used in that commercial is pejorative and offensive and if it were done in reverse you'd hear women screaming to the heavens about it. It's tantamount to a corporation lecturing me on how to be a gentleman. I can do that just fine without their help. They are not the moral standard I look up to for moral guidance.

Why are you offended if you aren’t guilty? I’ve never understood this.
Because it's bigoted and makes an assumption that most men suffer from "toxic masculinity" and need lecturing on it.

How would you feel if I, as a man, lectured you about extreme female emotional behavior, like PMS, when estrogen levels are peaking? Do you find me referring to it as "estrogen poisoning" or "toxic femininity" offensive? I would.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hegemonic_masculinity#Toxic_masculinity

Connell argues that an important feature of hegemonic masculinity is the use of "toxic" practices such as physical violence, which may serve to reinforce men's dominance over women in Western societies.[3] Other scholars have used the term toxic masculinity to refer to stereotypically masculine gender roles that restrict the kinds of emotions allowable for boys and men to express, including social expectations that men seek to be dominant (the "alpha male") and limit their emotional range primarily to expressions of anger.[69]

In gender studies, hegemonic masculinity is part of R. W. Connell's gender order theory, which recognizes multiple masculinities that vary across time, culture and the individual. Hegemonic masculinity is defined as a practice that legitimizes powerful men's dominant position in society and justifies the subordination of the common male population and women, and other marginalized ways of being a man.[1] Conceptually, hegemonic masculinity proposes to explain how and why men maintain dominant social roles over women, and other gender identities, which are perceived as "feminine" in a given society.

Why are you offended if you aren’t guilty? I’ve never understood this.

The reason it is offensive is that it assumes the need to lecture us as if we didn't already know right from wrong. Coming from a corporation that only a few years ago had one of its suppliers busted for violating child labor laws makes it even more absurd. Coming from a corporation that has no problem objectifying women, also makes it absurd.

I don’t think it did, sorry.

Men have commented, made bad jokes and ridiculed women for PMS for years, we are quite use to it by now. I can’t believe you would use that as an example, seriously, I don’t want to have this conversation with you. I won’t be commenting, anymore.
