In a public statement, the tribe called Warren’s use of a DNA test “inappropriate and wrong,” and said the senator “is undermining tribal interests with her continued claims of tribal heritage.” When questioned by reporters in 2012, she argued that her family knew they were Native because some relatives had high cheekbones, "like all of the Indians do." Warren said she was "very proud" of her heritage and "very proud of the stories that my grandparents told me that my grandparents told my parents and my parents told my brothers and me."

There is no DNA test for being Native American because DNA and genetic ancestry are not the same as culture and identity.
Carlos Bustamante concluded that though Warren is mostly European, “the results strongly support the existence of an unadmixed Native American ancestor” six to 10 generations ago. I her ancestor is fully 10 generations back, she would be only 1/1024th Native American.
Warren should never have made this claim to begin with. It doesn’t mean anything to possibly have 1/1024 Native American ancestry if she has no ties to Native American culture or politics otherwise.
Warren has never explicitly claimed to be a member of the Cherokee tribe, but did list herself as “Elizabeth Warren, Cherokee” under (plagiarized) recipes she contributed for a cookbook in 1984.) “People think that there’s a DNA test that can prove if somebody is Native American or not.
