It's not cultural appropriation that Beto's parents gave him a nickname that's a diminutive of his (namesake) grandfather's name.

I adopted Beto in my SN because I feel like I’m a Latino.

And no one is to question these sorts of things.

I have zero issue with his nickname. I honestly couldn't care less. But what jumped out at me is Rana said this is a common nickname for Robert. My father is named Robert and no one has ever called him Beto. And I've never heard another Robert called Beto.

Doing a google search wikipedia said this about the name Beto: Beto may refer to a person with the surname Beto, or the nickname for given names Alberto, Albertino, Berthony, Heriberto, Norberto, Roberto or Humberto. It occurs mostly in Portuguese- and Spanish-speaking countries and communities.

Except his name isn't Roberto and he's Irish.

Again, I don't care. His family can give him whatever nickname they would like. They created him, they can name him.
