Coast Guard hurricane team member fired for making white power sign.

Absolutely amazing.

It is. That folks think this is a racist gesture. It is not. At all. It was started as a prank and way too many people fell for it. Like now.

The origins of the okay hand signal troll

As the ADL’s Pitcavage explained last year, this whole story was fueled, like so much internet nonsense before it, with a 4chan trolling effort.

In February 2017, Pitcavage writes, a 4chan user proposed an effort called “Operation O-KKK” in which he and allies would, in the anonymous user’s words, “flood Twitter and other social media websites … claiming that the OK hand sign is a symbol of white supremacy.” Here’s the original 4chan post, as shared by KnowYourMeme:

The choice of the okay symbol for the prank, as KnowYourMeme editor-in-chief Brad Kim explains, was not totally arbitrary; “Sometime during the 2016 United States presidential election,” Kim writes, “Pizza Party Ben and Milo Yiannopoulos began making the gesture together at various events supporting the candidacy of Donald Trump.”

Why would he make .. sneak .. such a gesture during a broadcast?

Wait .. never mind.

Ok, I think this is crazy. I had never heard of a "hand sign" and this guy could have just been answering the phone or something. If all there is is what I saw in the vid, leave the poor guy alone.

He looks directly at the camera.
He looks around the room.
He considers his next move.
Then flashes the sign slyly like he was scratching his head.
He wasn't just saying "Okay".
He was saying, "Okay I am a white supremacist."
Firing such a slimy maggot was the exact right thing to do.
Well done.

You either need to up your psychotic meds or at a minimum find a job that at least you can afford good street drugs.

It's interesting. You would expect a person to learn of this and realize they were duped, but instead, we have people who would rather claim that it morphed into a real thing.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pepe_the_Frog

Pepe the Frog (/ˈpɛpeɪ/) is a popular Internet meme. A green anthropomorphic frog with a humanoid body, Pepe originated in a comic by Matt Furie called Boy's Club.[2] It became an Internet meme when its popularity steadily grew across Myspace, Gaia Online and 4chan in 2008. By 2015, it had become one of the most popular memes used on 4chan and Tumblr.[3] Different types of Pepe include "Sad Frog", "Smug Frog", and "Angry Pepe". Since 2014, "Rare Pepes" have been posted on the (sarcastic) "meme market" as if they were trading cards.[4][5][6]
By 2016, the character's image had been appropriated[7] as a symbol of the controversial alt-right movement.[8] The Anti-Defamation League added certain incarnations of Pepe the Frog to their database of hate symbols in 2016, adding that not all Pepe memes are racist.[9] Since then, Pepe's creator has publicly expressed his dismay at Pepe being used as a hate symbol.[10]
