aug 21 2018 Citing a shortage of affordable housing in “higher opportunity neighborhoods,” the Trump administration is strong arming private landlords nationwide into renting to low-income tenants that get government vouchers. This week the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) launched a special Landlord Taskforce to coerce more property owners to accept the taxpayer-funded subsidies (Housing Choice Voucher—HCV) issued to millions of poor people around the country. HUD Secretary Ben Carson created the special task force after studies conducted by leftist entities found that most landlords don’t accept the government vouchers, especially in nicer neighborhoods.

One of the studies was conducted by the Urban Institute, which is funded by George Soros’ Open Society Foundations (OSF) along with a roster of other leftist supporters. It measured the prevalence and extent of voucher-related discrimination against racial and ethnic minorities and differences between low and high-poverty neighborhoods. “Voucher holders who want to find housing in an opportunity area—perhaps close to high-quality schools, jobs, and transportation— face even more rejection,” the study reads.

You do know that no welfare program actually takes into account the race of the participant? All of them you qualify for given certain factors, like income and having children (often it's basically impossible for a single person to qualify for anything).

i think it would cause chaos with the financial system. If it appears as a regular check and yoou had no way to know otherwise deadbeats will still attempt to use it to pay credit cards and we would have a lot of bounced checks and overlimit accounts. (most banks let you use the credit for your payment the next day without waiting for the check to clear)

i actually think tdak serves a useful purpose. Normally when you do things to benefit your voters almost exclusively you have to pay a political price for it. Like for example increasing the budget of the military or giving subsidies to specific farmers. Some landlords prefer renting to Section 8 folks because it guarantees them they will get a certain amount of revenue per month. It is especially popular in my area where there are a lot of people of all races and ilks who are too entitled to pay their rent once they get in the door, leaving the landlord having to spend a fair amount of time, money, and energy to get them out.

One way to prevent the pathologies of poverty from taking over neighborhoods is to prevent excessive concentrations of poverty. When you have mostly poor people living in a particular place, you tend to see crime, academic under-achievement, obesity, substance abuse, and multi-generational cycles of poverty. If, instead, poor people are interspersed with middle-class and even wealthy people, there's more ability for high-functioning part of the societies to disrupt vicious cycles. For example, even if you're poor, if you have the ability to go to a public school with lots of kids from middle and upper class families, then you're likely to have plenty of available role models showing people getting ahead through lawful behavior and academic achievement. If you're a poor person living in a neighborhood with middle and upper class people, then you're more likely to encounter police who have the mentality that they're there to serve and protect you, rather than to contain and subjugate you. So, there's a lot of reason to pursue policies, such as vouchers, rent control, etc., if they're done in a way that they fight slum formation, by making it affordable for poorer people to live interspersed with the society in general, rather than being ghettoized into a handful of affordable neighborhoods.
