Plenty of people cared about them. What overrode that care was caring for your delicate, fragile egos and letting you have participation trophies. But the novelty has worn off. Now, you're saying you need these monuments to remember history; apparently unaware of books, movies, TV, libraries, and the internet.

You really don't get it, being a white guy. How would you as a white American be about statues of Red Coats? Or someone else that oppressed your ancestry, or current family? It's no difference then if you had statues commemorating kamikaze pilots on Pearl Harbor, Mexican soldiers on the Alamo grounds. I believe we have some Ohioans here. How would they feel about a Michigan championship statue in central Columbus?

Finally you get it. We aren't erasing anything, but dedications to traitors. Half of which the south erected against civil rights. It's not a history thing that these statues represent, it's a symbol of defiance to the human rights of many.
