Then he posted a random photo, untagged, that could have come from literally anywhere. It might not have even been a photo of him; possibly it was a photo of his father or relative he's passing off as himself.

The problem is that Conservatives have poisoned the well when it comes to self-appeals of authority. You're correct in that these are anonymous boards, so since they're anonymous, why would self-appeals to authority be made?
