Then, if people agree that there is an issue, they seek ways to correct it.

To be effective, those corrective measures would need to be political, since in our society, elected officials draft legislation and have oversight powers regarding governmental functions, like policing.

If existing laws are being enforced unfairly, the elected representative of the community can make improvements through administrative changes. If a unit of the police acts in a manner the elected officials find unacceptable, they take disciplinary action.

Am I going too fast?

If no existing laws are deemed effective enough, new ones are drafted, debated and put to a vote. If enacted, those laws become part of the framework of our society and the process begins again.

I asked if it was just a Right or Left issue? Making it political means just the Right or just the Left want reform of some kind, want to take action, while the other side doesn't see a problem and wants everyone to stop protesting and sit down and shut up. Is wanting police to be held accountable every time they take extreme measures just a Left issue? Why wouldn't the Right want that too? Why does anyone have to protest making cops accountable for their actions to begin with? This should be a bipartisan issue. Essentially non political because everyone agrees there is a problem and here's how to fix it. No need to vote in your chosen politician who will be on your side and fight for your issues. Everyone should be on the same side on an issue like police brutality.

That isn't a valid comparison, as far as I can see. Police brutality is an action and is always wrong (if proven).

Guns are inanimate objects whose ownership is a Constitutional right.

Trump deflected it far from kaps point about police abuse of blacks. He made it about the flag and the anthem, which it was not. He completely changed the subject. Posters are arguing that, which is not the point at all.

Kapernik was doing it awhile before someone picked it up and made a point out of it. if it was ignored, it would have died on its own or just continued quietly. But Trump made it a big ass deal by lying about it. Now it is completely different subject. But who expects Trump to understand? It is not unpatriotic to protest. It is actually using the rights the constitution gives you, until Trump takes them away.
