"WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump is set to unveil his long-awaited plan for reducing drug prices after more than a year of bold promises to tackle pharmacy costs that are squeezing millions of Americans."

"But the strategy to be outlined in a speech Friday will not include a key Trump campaign pledge to use the massive buying power of the federal government’s Medicare program to directly negotiate lower drug prices for seniors."

"Trump railed against the pharmaceutical industry, accusing companies of “getting away with murder.” But as president he has shied away from major reforms and staffed his administration with appointees who have deep ties to the industry, including health secretary, Alex Azar, a former top executive at Eli Lilly."

Shocking!

Major retailers as Costco have been using their weight to negotiate directly for years now

And I'm sure we'll see the predictable photo op moments, a lot of the usual "biggest, greatest, tremendous" superlatives included, Fox will probably show the speech live with the predictable "expert" panel narrating how great the proposal is for everyone.

Three months from now the conservatives will be heralding it as yet another one of Trump's promises kept, just like his infrastructure plan, Mexico paying, ending the ACA, etc, etc., etc.

Weren't you against the infrastructure plan? Why do you keep complaining its not getting done?

imo the maximum price for drugs in the US should be an average of canada shitain germany and france no higher.

Trump announced that under his leadership, nothing would change. The Medicare rule that does not allow them to shop for better prices and exert they buying pressure will not happen. Trump will tell drug companies to compete .That will do it;

President Donald J. Trump will announce his plan to lower drug prices for Americans. Under his leadership, the Food and Drug Administration’s emphasis on generic drug approvals contributed to prescription drug buyers saving $8.8 billion last year.

He'll be speaking at 2pm..............

Put out by the White House, did you expect him to admit that he's appeasing the drug lobby and forgetting direct negotiations as he promised?

Just like his infrastructure plan, it is a big nothingburger

Against, not really since there was nothing to be against, it wasn't anything, a sketch pretty much duplicating what States do now, but Trump got his photo op, and the right wing media praised it as a promise met, today it is dead, deader, deadest

And I'm not complaining things aren't getting done, which there not, but merely pointing the gullibility of conservatives who not only believe all the bullshit but actually echo it as factual

:palm: Oh my gosssssh. It's whitehouse.gov for crying out loud! LOL It's for remarks, news releases, speeches, etc. No network here at all, no commentary, no pundits. You guys are unbelievable.

How many conservatives were out there screaming for joy about an infrastructure plan? You, and most Democrats, were against the infrastructure plan because you thought it was going to privatize roads etc. You claimed to not like how it was funded. So I don't understand why you would be upset that it's not happening. Infrastructure at the federal level is a boondoggle.

It is the White House's website, duh, seems you've missed a lot in the last year and half, the majority of anything coming out of the White House is questionable, they don't have an established track record for honesty

And what is laughable it is the conservatives, who echoed for eight years that any infornmation or data released by any Gov't agency was all lies, are now attempting to tell us the White House's website is credible. Can still recall the labeling of the Dept of Labor's declining unemployment rates as being totally bogus

Trump's infrastructure plan was introduced with the same orchestrated theatrics as this drug plan, his opied proposals, his umpteen do nothing EO's, all heralded by the right wing media, and bought as an accomplishment by the conservatives. Once again I am just pointing out the hilarity of it all, and gullibility of the right

And if you want to get into specifics, the infrastructure plan was bogus from the start. Trump promised this dedicated involvement by the Federal Gov't, just as he did with drug proposals, to completely revamp America's infrastructure, top priority, and what does he do, return with a plan dependent upon private funding, although that didn't stop him from throwing around the idea of trillions of dollars for repairs. It, and the show surrounding it, were nearly comical, yet conservatives bought the shtick

What conservatives are you talking about?

it's very effective when it's a partnership with the states. New Federalism at work. Even Reagan practiced that
But Trump's 80-20% is too low -he doesn't want to hear more squawking about the deficit - thanks to that turkey Paul Ryan laid at his feet

Were you blind? There was NO COMMENTARY......just a televised speech.

The promise was a big effort by the Federal Gov't to utilize its resources, just as he promised regarding prescription drugs, and worrying about "squawking about the deficit" is the last thing that concerned the President

But the congratulatory and complementary commentary surely followed on Fox, the panel of "regular contributors," and the biggest laugh in the speech was the part of deregulating to supposed increase competition, got all the right catch lines, like existing regulation stopped Martin Shkreli
