A majority of people who claim to be conservatives are actually political reactionaries. A true conservative wants to protect the status quo. By definition Evengelicals are reactionary but all things are relative. Compared to the Amish and Mennonites Evangelicals are positively progressive.

I find it fascinating that conservatives reject conserving the environment.

Thats a common misconception actually. I work in the environmental field at a professional level and my colleagues in the field at all levels are pretty much a cross section of the general population including many conservatives.

In fact many folk that liberals marginalize as NRA gun toting redneck conservatives more often than a lot of liberals put both their money and back where their mouth is in habitat conservation, land management, protecting wildlife, public health and sanitation, etc.

My point being being the Republican Party isn’t monolithic and the majority of conservatives believe in environmental conservation and pollution prevention. The real difference is in how we believe economic interest should be regulated in regards to environmental protection.

Certainly a pro-fossil fuel industry lobbyists is going to have radically different views on that than the person who lives next to a refinery. If you see my point?
