no, I think Trump and his supporters are different,

strategically there is a way to vote Trump and not vote party. There already a couple of Republicans who went all in defying trump, the nutjob from MAine Susan Collins, the nutjob from Alaska Murkowski, and McCain at some level.

so we shall see. Trump could run tomorrow and he would still get 306 electoral votes. So all of this noise better find another strategy, as if the 2016 wasn't enough to tell them that, but still onward they march.
We're watching an anomaly with Trump. and with the economy chugging along full speed, Stock Market record highs, Illegal immigration down. It's a hard sell for a simple obstructionist to make their case.

The 'sell' will be going back to the old ways.

Going back to open borders will be a particularly hard sell as time goes on. The Rust Belt made it clear they put jobs/economy ahead of climate change, identity politics and the other liberal shibboleths.
