Bill Clinton's episode laid the groundwork by allowing Trump supporters to say to themselves "His personal life has nothing to do with his job performance". It was fucking wrong when people allowed a sexual harasser to remain in office after he lied in court. And Trump is a result of ignoring standards of conduct for our highest office.

This is spot on. You go Nixon, Ford, Carter, Reagan and Bush I. Did any of those guys have big sexual scandals prior to or during their terms? (They had issues but not of the sexual kind). Gary Hart had to drop out in '87 because it was found he had a mistress.

Clinton was a game changer both in terms of actions prior to and during his presidency.

I felt it was a really bad precedent to set at the time back in 98 and I knew it would lead to people ignoring laws and making excuses for people they like. I came to the conclusion back then that I needed to change since everyone else thought differently and so I also became one of those people who "compartmentalized" my opinions of others.
