At least in voice and tone if not pocketbook the Republicans are the belligerent party, it only figures a democrat is more likely to merit consideration. But you are right that Obama got the award partly due to being black, and you are wrong that that consideration is mockworthy.

I don't know what all the hoopla is about. It's not like this is an annual award voted on by distinguished peers. It's not even an annual award.
Google GQ citizen of the year 2016, 2015 and so on and the only thing that comes up is 2017 Kaepernick.
It was a one time predominately gay reader magazine cover. Pfffft!
Stephen Colbert got 'Bad Hombre of the Year' "award". Gal Gadot (whoever that is) got the coveted 'Wonder Woman of the Year Award'.

The Nobel committee dropped the ball in not nominating Hillary after the election.
1. She put up a valiant fight going down trying to save the world from Darth Vader
2. It would've made a great consolation prize rather than her participation award for second place.
