GQ Citizen of the Year 2017: Colin Kaepernick

I've noticed a solid uptick in your negative references towards people of color.
How's that? I just nominated a person of color for the Nobel Peace Prize. He certainly meets the qualifications.

I'll have to review my posts. Not sure what negative references you refer to.

Edit:
Ah, I see it now. I was dissing those stupid Norwegians for making a mockery of that Peace Prize. Stupid effing white homogeneous country.

Myself? No. I have experienced others being a burden on me. Maybe as a member of society it effected me and by extension society. But that's just blathering bullshit.
But I do KNOW something. Nothing has been a burden on you or me from society because of color or race. I KNOW since you have not lived in the ghetto and I have been around it. I have because as a working class white guy as a kid I was around that and guess what, I didn't become a reactionary bitch. Unlike you, it drips from every post, so soft, you are. So faux tuff. Further I succeeded beyond even my families expectations neither because or in spite of superficial shit like 'burden on society. That's what safely in the suburbs ass wipes say whom never actually experienced even the edge of 'the burden of society' as you so colloquially call it. Never actually felt the edge of life, like say yourself. It's so transparent on your part. Yet you got job and work and stuff. How cute. How superficial, how irrelevant.

I've worked since I was 10 years old. I work at the greatest job in the world. I AM living the dream and I came from nothing. I've nothing to prove and I laugh at dumb asses like you but only when dumb asses like YOU specifically ask for it.

APPLAUSE :hand::hand:

On some next level stuff that's above my head but is still very interesting is former USC All-American and NFL player Lawrence Jackson. He is quite an interesting follow on twitter. He's all about black economic power and taking down capitalism while investing in the black community. Not all his followers agree but he speaks to Kaepernick being a distraction to the real goals in the black community.

I'm not saying he's right or wrong but he backs up his beliefs with his actions.

Here's his tweet on Kap and GQ:

Kaepernick is a joke, the media loves the story, they don’t care about him. GQ used him to sale magazines and get attention... Jay Z said it best “so you can use my black ass for ads”

He's wrong as he could possibly be.

Actually, cawascko was right on the money. GQ used him, and now he looks more ridiculous than ever. Not as ridiculous as Bruce and his award. But still, what a joke.
JJ Watt would have been a deserving winner. Kaepernick is an embarrassment. And certainly no role model for young people.

did you check out his twitter feed by chance? curious what you think to his ideas

I haven't looked at his Twitter, but his suggestion that Kaepernick is a distraction and a joke doesn't really give me the sense that he's some kind of serious intellectual that I need to pay attention to.

If GQ put him on their cover .. which I'm sure he'd be giddy about .. would he consider himself being used?

Perhaps within the sphere in which you exist .. and perhaps you can easily point out where you or anybody else has brought more much attention to the issue than Kaepernick has .. or has put more on the line than he has.

I don't know you .. can't make that judgement.

But to millions of others who exist within the sphere that I do, this award is clearly justified.

If you have a chance check it out. I think I posted the link. Maybe it makes in the bigger context (maybe it doesn't).

I don't fully understand all that he's aiming for but he's clearly thought out his position.

I'll check it out only because you've asked me to .. but he should have more clearly thought out his Twitter comment about Kapernick before he posted it.

To be clear I'm not saying or suggesting you need to agree with him in what he talks about. I'm trying to understand it better myself and maybe you can offer some insight.

Not quite. You were making a mockery of the committee for awarding the prize to Barack Obama because you feel they did it solely due to his race, and presumably because he is from your perspective liberal (something only yesterday you claimed to be, and both reasons wrong in my estimation) You dismiss his credentials
and imply you think that the ascension of the first person of color to the Potus should be immaterial. How many more generations should have gone by before there was a black president when 13 % of the US population is black? That festering injustice was somewhat alleviated by Barack Obama. Peace and injustice are intertwined.
At least in voice and tone if not pocketbook the Republicans are the belligerent party, it only figures a democrat is more likely to merit consideration. But you are right that Obama got the award partly due to being black, and you are wrong that that consideration is mockworthy.

If it's a travesty that Trump didn't get one, don't hold your breath.

I'm not sure what you mean by "within the sphere in which you exist". The attention he brought was negative and he had nothing to put on the line.
I see nothing deserving of "Citizen of the Year". Not a thing.
He's on the cover. Bruce is on several covers and won "Woman of the Year".. That just means they're on the cover. Participation awards mean little.
I'll point out JJ Watt every day if I'm talking role models and great citizens. I won't mention Kaepernick. I don't know too many who will.
But, you are entitled to your opinion. And I am entitled to mine.:)

GQ names Kaepernick ‘Citizen of the Year’

Colin Kaepernick has been named GQ Magazine's 2017 "Citizen of the Year."

GQ referred to Kaepernick as "the man who became the movement."

"Much has changed in the four years since Colin Kaepernick was last on the cover of GQ. Back then he was a rippling superhero of a quarterback on the rise," the magazine wrote.

"But a simple act — kneeling during the national anthem — changed everything. It cost him his job. It also transformed Colin Kaepernick into a lightning rod and a powerful symbol of activism and resistance."
