Because someone inside the church, SOMEONE WITHOUT A GUN, stepped up and wrestled the assault rifle away from him..

That's when he went outside the church and was probably heading towards his car to leave anyway when the guy with the gun started shooting at him.

Someone WITHOUT A GUN had already disarmed him of the assault rifle he had relied on to commit the carnage with.

All he had left was the pistol he shot himself with and you don't know how serious his wounds inflicted by the other guy were.

Where in the hell did you read that; because the reports I've seen said he dropped his rifle, when he was shot by the good Samaritan.

I don’t know what the shooter “would have” done. Either do you, dimwit. What I do know is that he had completed shooting inside the church and was exiting.
