The United Nations is sounding the alarm: The last time carbon dioxide concentrations in the atmosphere were this high was three to five million years ago.

In a report this week, the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) warned that temperatures could continue to spike, hitting perilous levels by 2100 — unless world leaders take drastic action.

"Without rapid cuts in CO2 and other greenhouse gas emissions, we will be heading for dangerous temperature increases by the end of this century," Petteri Taalas, the WMO's secretary-general, said in a statement.
 
That alarming prediction will likely loom over a major climate summit, known as COP 23, that starts next week in Bonn, Germany, and will bring together leaders from around the World

fierce El Niño and human activity helped lead to a surge of CO2 concentrations to 403.3 parts per million in 2016, an increase from 400 in 2015. CO2 traps heat in the earth's atmosphere, leading to higher temperatures.

"The numbers don't lie," Erik Solheim, the executive director of the U.N. Environment Program, said in a statement. "We are still emitting far too much and this needs to be reversed."

People do, and they should do more, like vote For Democrats who implement green policy on everything from auto standards to Paris accords. Wanna bet against Democrats buying more electrics and hybrid and solar? Republicans probably do equal solar thanks to Democrats providing tax breaks for the investment. Gotta put a carrot in front of a nag to get it moving.

Why aren't ALL Democrats living entirely green lives? You demand the rest of us go greener. Set the example.

Better yet, why don't all of you idiots that believe the hoax you push voluntarily stop breathing at the same time and far less CO2 will be emitted.

Audi, VW, GM and Ford are all going electric in the next few years so its pretty much a done deal. 29 coal plants are now generating with gas and another 54 are in the process of conversion. Coal stocks and buggy whip stocks go together. https://news.nationalgeographic.com...41120-coal-plants-repowered-with-natural-gas/

That's good news, as is China's massive investment in batteries and green tech. The sad news is we are going the other way and will lose out on all the money we could have made because these right wingers are SLAVES to the big oil lobby.

Yes and I have been a strong advocate for CCGT power stations, the more the better. They are cheap, mega reliable and provide a steady dispatchable baseload.

I wonder what would have happened in Florida if all those millions fleeing the hurricanes had electric cars and couldn't charge them because the electricity grid was down?

you dont think stuff through before you post do you? the gas pumps run on electricity so its pretty much a net net. There is storage for electricity just as there is storage for gas.

I would disagree we are going the other way but having a moron in the WH that panders to the uneducated deplorables certainly doesnt help.
