This happened last month, anybody know more about it?

Sheriff’s deputies in California claimed they feared for their lives after shooting a man who was filming them from his own garage. After Sacramento sheriff’s deputies shot Danny Sanchez, he was sent to the UC Davis Medical Center, where he underwent surgery to remove bullet fragments, according to his father, John Sanchez. The shooting occurred when the Sheriff’s department SWAT team showed up to arrest a neighbor, Ben Ledford, 62, after he fired off an illegal machine gun from across the street. When Sanchez saw the incident, and the SWAT team converge, he began recording from his garage. He assumed there wouldn’t be any problem, since he was so far away from the incident, on his own property and even out on the edge of the garage. Police say that Sanchez was extending his arm with “an object” in his hand. That “object” was a cellphone, Sanchez’s father John “Sonny” Sanchez said. His son was simply trying to videotape the arrest of Ledford.

That’s when police opened fire on him because they do not know the difference between a phone and a weapon.“He was yelling, ‘Dad I’m shot, I’m shot,’ so I grabbed him inside and closed the garage door. I put a tourniquet around his leg and a clean towel,” John Sanchez explained. He pointed out four additional bullet holes in his garage as well as several more in his car. “You can see how many shots they did: one, two three, four — shooting at my son with a cell phone. C’mon that’s ridiculous,” Sanchez commented.

Sgt. Jason Ramos, of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department, said, “I think it’s reasonable to think that the officers perceived an immediate threat either to themselves or continued threat to that individual.”
On top of shooting him and arresting him, Sanchez’s home was also searched. But Sgt. Ramos acknowledged Sanchez committed no crime and is not facing any charges.

Unreal.

lets hope that video didn't get 'deleted' or that the phone gets 'misplaced', not that california is big on holding cops accountable...........

I think it's cool to point things at police while they are involved in an active shooting investigation......it's sure to turn out we__

I also think it's hilarious that conservatives claim to be limited government constitution supporters while at the very same time support an all powerful police force of government sponsored and paid employees that can do just about anything in the name of 'law'..........but then you'd have to try to explain cognitive dissonance to them and they get all 'what?'

I think it's hilarious that you consider yourself the ultimate authority on the Constitution and get mad when people don't agree with you.

It must hurt your arrogant feelings.

I always thought that was dangerous to point your phone at cops while they are trying to do their jobs, dangerous to the cops.
As if their jobs are not hard enough to add being distracted and on guard with their actions because some loon thinks they might get a gotcha moment.
Maybe if you shoot a few of them word will get out that when cops are conducting business, leave the area unless you want to become part of the story.
bam

And you wonder why people improperly reciprocate against otherwise good cops.

actually, no. it makes me feel bad for you that you are that ignorant about it. conservatives need to get off the notion that they are the biggest supporters of the constitution or just admit that they don't like it and prefer a police state.

if you pointed a cell phone at me and I shot you because I thought it was a gun, what do you believe should happen to me?

I woudn't point a cell phone at you if you were a cop upholding the law.

And you wouldn't shoot a gun if your life depended on it.

Now if you pointed a cell phone at me, lets flip it,
and I thought it was a gun and I shot you, I would get a lawyer and impress that I was defending myself.
You're gone, I'm here.

That would depend on whether or not the jury decided that at that moment you felt your life was in danger.
But then, you already knew that and just wanted a reason to make a post.

so you don't believe it's your duty as an American to make sure cops actually uphold the law? for instance, if you saw a cop let another person go after beating on another individual, only to learn later that it was a fellow cop he let go........you're ok with just part of upholding the law?

And you wouldn't shoot a gun if your life depended on it.
you shouldn't project your own feelings upon others. I've shot and killed others because my life depended on it. what makes you think I wouldn't do it again?

Now if you pointed a cell phone at me, lets flip it,

so instead of actually answering my question, you flip it around thinking you've won some sort of point? no, you lose.

no, I already knew that most people would look at a cop on the stand with their badge and gun and say 'obviously feared for his life', but then look at ANY civilian, including you, and convict because you're just a civilian and don't know jack shit.
