Do soldiers fight for a flag, or what it represents?

In your prior post, I said the same thing about you.

Smell the coffee.

So in your mind race relations haven't improved since the 50's. I guess Martin Luther King accomplished nothing. Either that or you are a racist, which is most likely the case!

It won't matter what you show them or what evidence you give them, their opinions won't change because for these racists, it's all about them being black.

It's why I block that shit out.

Funny how racists love to blame everyone else as being racists!
Let me guess some of your best friends are white.

It's not a matter of if race relations have 'improved.' The question is are race relations where they need to be.? Are African-Americans as free as white people?

The answer to both is a resounding NO.

You calling me a racist is ignorant. You've been on this board for about 10 minutes, but I guess my being black is 'racist' enough for you.

Too often we're not fighting for our country .. we're fighting because the president told us to .. often based on lies.

1,353,000 deaths in Vietnam for a made up war .. nearly 60,000 dead American soldiers.

Iraq .. another made up war.

Afghanistan, yet another with no visible purpose.
all wars of interventionism.
None about our real national security except AfPak which could have been done as a counter-terrorism op instead of 'nationbuilding'

I'm guessing that you know first hand what a racist will do .. which by the way, I don't give a fuck about.

All that matters here is are you intelligent enough to support what you claim on this board. So far you're batting zero.

If all you have are your girlish emotions about me, I don't expect you'll last long here.

This is a good discussion, and one I believe to be germane to the OP.

Truth is, WW2 was a war of choice for America. Sure there are good arguments for stopping the plague of nazis .. but we entered the war by choice.

England and Churchill were begging for us to get in, and FDR badly wanted to get in. But most Americans wanted no part in it. FDR was bound by law and the isolationist sentiment in America at the time.

FDR had a plan. He goaded and pushed the Japanese into attacking Pearl Harbor .. an attack that should have surprised no one.

The country no longer had a choice.

is that like when Obama tricked Bush into invading Iraq by blowing up the World Trade Center?......

This is how I did it,
[h=1]Matthew 6:5-6New International Version (NIV)[/h][h=3]Prayer[/h]5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.

I think most know the intentions of the nazis, but I'm interested in your understanding of it.

I am more interested in how he reconciles his understanding with the fact that his political party (assigned to him from his parents) has slid in that direction. The only diff between the Republicans and Nazi Germany is a spark and whatever opposition can be mustered to prevent or stop them.

You have to love when you ask about innocent black kids being murdered by cops, and they answer 'yea, but Chicago'.

Tamir Rice, dummy.

You mean the one that was carrying a modified airsoft replica pistol, that was missing the necessary orange tip and looked like a real gun??

Case in point. He was 'guilty' of possessing a toy, and deserved to be murdered within 3 seconds of the cops arriving.

Nice try with the meme...but Rice never pointed the gun at the cops.

That is probably one reason, a big reason. I am sure there are thousands of different reasons individual have to take into consideration. My understanding is that my brother joined the Air Force to earn money for college, earn a second college degree, and further his career options. As a air force desk jockey I think he would laugh at the concept he was a warrior "fighting for our freedoms".

I have a cousin who served as a junior officer in the Red Army. I'm pretty sure they had conscription at that time in the Soviet Union, so I got the impression he did it as his legal duty, not for money.

My step father was conscripted into world war two, so he obviously had not choice and I don't think fighting the Japanese was high on his list of priorities, so again it was a legal obligation. I know for a fact he would have laughed at the assertion he was "fighting for the flag" or for "our freedoms".

In wartime, quite apart from simply being called up, boredom seems to be a big factor. My Grandfather, a teacher, moved Heaven and Earth to get in despite being judged unfit by the Board, fought all through the first war and survived (apart from a brief escape with piles! then finally made it to a commission. He had two children to bring up after his wife died, and had to live with her parents. The Rhondda back then was not all it is cracked up to be! My Uncle, who was killed on VE Day was stuck in a tax office. I won't come back to all that, he said, and he was as good as his word!

And so, on February 2, 2012, when Officer Richard Haste shot 18-year-old Ramarley Graham — who was unarmed, standing in his own bathroom — the hollow-point bullet did just that. Less than a millisecond after being fired, the Speer Gold Dot 9-mm. round struck Graham’s chest and blossomed as it bore a jagged tunnel through his aorta, trachea, and right lung. Seconds later, Graham was all but dead, facedown on the tile floor.
There was no video. The NYPD offered a tidy and by-now-familiar explanation: A police officer thought a young, unarmed black man had a gun and, fearing for his life, made a fatal miscalculation. A thorough investigation would follow, the police said. While it did, One Police Plaza controlled the narrative, and the scant information that was made public was riddled with inconsistencies.

In your simple mind, they won't ever be where they need to be. That way, you'll always have an excuse for why blacks perform as levels lower than other races.

Murdered? Where is the conviction?

Good stuff, appreciate the insights.
I generally think all that crap about "fighting for the flag", "fighting for our freedoms" are just cereal box slogans.

While the argument could be made that defeating Hitler was a moral imperative, that type of moral clarity is pretty rare in war. Undoubtedly, most American soldiers (probably English too) have been sent to wars of choice, for the economic and geopolitical schemes of old white men.

Pretty sure there has always been a 1984-esque propaganda scheme to create an aura of hero worship of the military - a society that holds militarism in high esteem - for reasons that are less than noble.

The stupidity in the above comment is astounding.

And they KNEW it was a toy, that he was pulling out of his waistband; because.................................................??

OH; so now everyone is supposed to wait, UNTIL IT'S POINTED AT THEM.

I've never met anyone who could draw and fire their weapon, when the other person is already pointing one at you.
Your skills are impressive. :;good4u:
