Do soldiers fight for a flag, or what it represents?

Yes. This imaginary 'the defend our freedoms' nonsense is just a fabrication.

When they're taking enemy fire, they're fighting to keep themselves, and the guys/gals next to them alive.

They're not thinking about the fact that they're dying for our war for oil.

Indeed. Having never faced a maelstrom of lead myself, I can only state the impression my relatives who served in war gave me.

I think we are kidding ourselves by saying they are "fighting for our freedoms". That is a slogan used by politicians. A cereal box slogan.

Vietnam, Iraq, Panama, were certainly never a threat to "our freedoms" or even a substantial threat to the security of our nation.

"I spent 33 years and four months in active military service and during that period I spent most of my time as a high class muscle man for Big Business, for Wall Street and the bankers. In short, I was a racketeer, a gangster for capitalism. I helped make Mexico and especially Tampico safe for American oil interests in 1914. I helped make Haiti and Cuba a decent place for the National City Bank boys to collect revenues in. I helped in the raping of half a dozen Central American republics for the benefit of Wall Street. I helped purify Nicaragua for the International Banking House of Brown Brothers in 1902-1912. I brought light to the Dominican Republic for the American sugar interests in 1916. I helped make Honduras right for the American fruit companies in 1903. In China in 1927 I helped see to it that Standard Oil went on its way unmolested. Looking back on it, I might have given Al Capone a few hints. The best he could do was to operate his racket in three districts. I operated on three continents." -- Major General Smedley Butler, U.S. Marine Corps

Be careful if you put into a Canadian port.

Reports say that Canada now criminalizes inappropriate gender references.

http://dailycaller.com/2017/06/16/canada-passes-law-criminalizing-use-of-wrong-gender-pronouns/

You could find yourself in stormy seas if Amadoofus prefers to be called "she" and you don't comply.

I get up to Canada quite a bit. Nice people. More conservative on the coasts by my experience. Amadeus just resides in Canada, believe me, he is no Canadian.

Kidding? What makes you think they would not want to defend their families like everyone else? Pride in doing so. Not a real hard thing to understand.
They weren't defending family. There was no danger to anyone here. Pearl Harbor was a one off. With all the talk of 'they fight for our freedoms', I want to know what freedoms black soldiers fought for?

World War 2?????????????????? What are you? Fucked in the head or something? Has liberalism got you that fucked up that you think WW2 was not a threat to this country?

Agree. I have several Vietnam vet friends, and had more who passed. Many were missing limbs, facial skin, etc. A dear friend is dying of agent orange related cancer right now. Most Vietnam vets don't believe this 'fighting for freedoms' bullshit.

None knew what the hell they were doing over there, and all my friends were proud of the protesters.

They also all say that they considered themselves dead when they were there, because the odds were good that they'd never make it out of that swamp.

But you are correct. The chickenhawk politicians come up with cute catchphrases that are meant to further divide the nation.

More cool stories, bro.

I love it when liberals claim (conveniently) to have all these ex-warmonger friends who coincidentally share all their opinions.

Isn't this fallacy called "appeal to authority", or something?

Propaganda to get men & women to fight & die for a cause they naturally would have no cause to do so.....

I am thankful that reagan conquered Grenada & kept me free......

I wonder if the Grenadians share your selfish perspective, silly Billy.

I also wonder if others who would have been in range of Soviet jets based on the huge airfield that Reagan's intervention kept of out of Communist hands are on board with your opinion.

I assume these are rhetorical questions, since we both know the answers.

Althea is indeed fucked in the head, and the rest of its' babble flows downhill from there.

Gee...I wonder what black combat soldiers in WW2 were fighting for? The right to be treated like a second or third class citizen when they returned home? Because this country still had 'whites only' stores, restaurants, bathrooms, etc.

I don't see what your post has to do with the subject. But like it or not black people were no less patriotic during WWII than they are now. If you want to talk real injustice during WWII then we should be talking about the thousands of Japanese Americans forced leave their homes to move to internment camps simply because they were of Japanese descent. Yes racism is awful but thankfully we are making progress.

Real soldiers either come of military families and take it for granted or, much more commonly, are poor and in need of work. After a while they may kid themselves about flags, military bands and all that crap, but they basically fight for money, surely?

The second a symbol represents just piety or the sacred to anyone is the second it should be desecrated. World is too complicated to allow imbeciles to control us by dicing pieces and associating themselves with parts they choose.

It 'represents' many things, including racism. Protestors protest against any notion that it represents people like you, for whom the Swastika is more appropriate.

Wow, what a piece of shit you are. 3D wore the uniform.
