You're none too bright yourself, can you explain how the Hama Massacre had anything to do with the West? Assad's dad managed to gain nearly three decades of peace by wiping out the extremists back then. I might also add that the West left Syria alone for the most part, indeed Obama just sat back and watched Daesh take over large swathes of the Levant and did nothing. People think that America is a capitalist society, but it's actually a socialist-capitalist hybrid (like most Western democracies). A purely capitalist society would be a living hell-hole, and so would a purely socialist society. Capitalist-minded people say that government and regulations are evil (so they've convinced the plebs that less government protection and regulation somehow benefits them). In reality, they want government protections to fall so they can milk you for profit, while raping the environment that you depend on to survive.

The term didn't even exist when the American government was set-up.
It didn't need to exist for it to fit the definition. The American military, for example, is 100% socialist. The degree of socialism can be determined by the degree of government involvement.

Your rule appears to be that Constitutional appendages of the government are socialist.
How the government determines the law or the appropriation of funds is not really relevant. In a pure monarchy, the king/ruling class determines both -- but whatever the government controls are essentially socialist, by definition. A capitalist (purely libertarian) society would crumble within years, and in my opinion probably couldn't form to begin with. Libertarians latch onto an existing society and then says, 'Why do you need government? Lets defund the government and deregulate everything!'
While pure socialism is essentially communism, pure capitalism doesn't even get that far in success or functionality.

Economic liberalism is closer to describing the politics of actually managing an economy. A tighter, more leftist approach, still describes a capitalist economy. You are pretending that capitalism only can exist in an anarchist, or nearly governmentally dissolved society.
