So, this is the deal now? The NFL is now the new target?

How is the NFL "fleecing" anyone? Are the politicians/lawyers who make these deals stupid and can't read a contract? Are they lying to their constituents about the taxes used to fund these stadiums?
Are the NFL owners twisting arms and threatening anyone with bodily harm if they do not get these stadiums built?
I would like to see the answers to these questions in an honest fashion; because if the answer is "no" to all of them, no one is getting "fleeced".
What we do know is that these stadiums often bring a LOT of tax revenue, good paying jobs and prosperity to the cities that host them. I don't know why it is a problem; the Federal Government does not engage in these efforts; it is at the LOCAL level.
If the taxpayers of these cities don't want the teams, they can always vote against the ballot measures and vote out of office those politicians they think are trying to "fleece" them; can they not?
Seattle Seahawks stadium. Educate yourself.

How the NFL fleeces taxpayers
I would bet with confidence that you never, ever, not one single time in your message board career started a thread complaining about the NFL as a business, let alone as a perceived model of corporate welfare......until your hero Donald J. Drumpf made it his mission.
Are you really that much of a mindless parrot, a follower, a submissive gimp who lives to follow orders?

How does this refute ANYTHING I posted above Yaya? Be very specific.![]()

I guess you did not read the full piece in The Atlantic (which I referenced a quote from in the OP) The title of the article is "How the NFL fleeces taxpayers".
The voters of Seattle voted against public funding for the new stadium. And then the city said, screw you, we are using taxes to help fund it.
Pretty simple.
So the answer is, it never not one single time ever occurred to you to post an article slamming the NFL as a business, until your hero Donald Trump needed you to be his wingman.
Do you ever think for yourself?
One of the beauty of sports is it (used to at least) transcend a lot of the boundaries in our world. This also includes public funding of sports stadiums. It was never a right/left issue. There were people on both the right and left who have argued for years against the public funding of stadiums and that the promised economic benefits never materialize.
There have been fans/voters/politicians of both the right and left that have supported publicly funded stadiums.
Why are you so triggered? I was merely telling you where the title of the thread came from. Have I ever in the last 10 years complained about the business end of the NFL? Not a whole lot...and not in here till recently because I haven't been here that long or seen such turmoil. I posted this thread mainly because somebody posted in another thread that they didn't realize that taxpayers partially fund this business. The video fills in a lot of blanks.
First game I ever actually went to was Super Bowl III in the Orange Bowl......things have changed a lot.
